Not for the intermediate,
By Glen S (PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides) (Paperback)
I felt that this book was simply a rehashing of the manual. It was repetitive, and did not provide any insights into the camera which were not already easily found in the manual. The chapters on Lighting and composition were short and sparse. I would have liked to see more detail on flash usage, lenses and idiosyncrasies unique to this camera.

Much more than just an instructor's manual,
By Laura (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides) (Paperback)
I should probably start this off by saying I hate directions and instruction guides. I like to just figure things out on my own. When I turned on my brand new Nikon D60, everything on the LCD menu was in Japanese. BUT when I went to the little booklet which came with the camera, it didn't say what to do when that happened. That's when I knew I was in trouble. So I picked up this camera guide figuring it was just a glorified instruction booklet. I was shocked when I realized that it was really useful! It's not just about what each special feature does, but it explained simply and clearly when and why to use it. It made sense. What really made me impressed with this book though, is that I had only gotten though a handful of pages before I had to run out the door to a friend's baby shower. I brought the camera with me and I found myself remembering the photography tricks and tips the book was talking about. I even started trying some of them out at the shower. At that point the only tips I had read were about what happens when you manually play with the aperture or the shutter speed, but it made an immediate difference in the quality of my photos. I am thrilled that I bought this book and recommend it to anyone who just bought a D60 or wants to take better pictures now that they invested in one!

everything I was looking for!,
By Caroline (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides) (Paperback)
I just got my Nikon camera and I was having trouble and confusion with some of the settings - this book was perfect! It showed me exactly what I needed to know. Not only did it help me with the technology, but the beautiful images really inspired me (check out the lighting and composition sections! They are awesome!).I bought this book to learn how to use my camera and I ended up so enthusiastic about getting out there and using what I've learned that I spent hours last night shooting flowers and trees in my back yard. They were wet with rain, which was perfect for me after reading the section on inclement weather and how it can really be prime opportunity for a photographer to get some good shots (not to mention good diffused lighting). I can now meneuver through my menus and deal with lenses and apertures with much more confidence and I have this great book to guide me should I forget. If you have a Nikon D60 - you MUST get this book!

Nikon D60 Guide Covers All The Bases,
This review is from: Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides) (Paperback)
Buying a digital SLR can intimidate even the most experienced photographers. Digital cameras, and particularly SLRs, open up a whole new world of image manipulation and camera capabilities.Corey Hilz's Nikon D60 book has become an important addition to my collection as I try to learn more and more about my new Nikon D60. Not only does the book cover the camera's buttons and menus, but it also delves into photography techniques. I'm a visual learner, and the side-by-side pictures demonstrating the differences in an identical shot with a slightly different setting really help me understand my camera. It gets easier to imagine exactly how my picture will turn out before I shoot it. The guide is also easy to reference and skim. Small tips and warnings stand out from the text so I don't miss anything. Overall, I've found this book extremely valuable as a Nikon D60 owner. The full-color photographs and wide variety of information make this guide a must-have carry-along as I shoot pictures with my D60.

Best Guide for the D60,

Based on the advice of a friend at a local camera store (where I tried out the D60) I also bought this guide when I purchased the D60 from Amazon. The D60 factory manual is hard to read, poorly illustrated and poorly organized with the need to jump back and forth too often when reviewing features. The Hilz guide is well organized, easy to read with excellent illustrations. It is not only a great guide for the D60 but also an excellent beginners guide to digital photography. The quick start section will get you up and photographing immediately while the rest of the book will walk you step by step thru the camera's many modes and features.

I love this book! It is a very easy read and is very informative. You will learn the ins and out of the D60 and get pointers along the way to improve your technique. I've already reccommended this book to others that I know that have the D60.

Great camera guide,

This book does a nice job of not only covering how to use the Nikon D60, but also provides photography tips and information about how to take better pictures overall. The author explains things with a great amount of detail, but uses language and visual examples that make it easy to understand and apply. This book is great for beginners as well as more experienced digital camera users.

The Book, Nikon D60, by Corey Hilz, was Written for Me,

I recently purchased a Nikon D60 to expand my photographic experience in both taking and editing digital photographic images. I am a person who needs explicit and consistent directions when learning a new skill. I purchased a book by an author whose books about digital photography I had read previously. However, after I began reading, I realized that the explanations were not in the order that I needed and many of the explanations were not clear enought for me to be sure that I was following the correct procedures. The camera manual and handbooks also did not gvie me the help I needed. Then I found Nikon D60, by Corey Hilz. For me, this book is everything I was looking for. Corey Hilz has written the book as if you were a student in his photography class and he was walking from workstation to workstation, explaining and pointing out each item in his well-planned lecture notes. His explanations are clear and concise, the images of the camera parts are well defined and the photographic images as a result of using his directions are very explicit. If you are a "nubie" like me, and are looking for a book/manual to get you over the hump of trying to learn to use your D60 quickly and "without pain and suffering", this is the book for you.

Nikon D60 Focal Digital Camera Guide,
By
This review is from: Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides) (Paperback)
I thought this was a great book to introduce a person to the digital SLR. I liked how the book had the Visual Tour of the camera, Quick Start and How to get good images out of the camera in 5 minutes at the beginning of the book. It was all the information you needed without having to read the manual that comes with the camera, which is always more difficult to understand. Great use of examples and simple verbiage that anyone could follow along. And if someone wanted to know more indepth how to use the camera they can find the information in the rest of the book! Explains basic lighting, lenses, software and even composition of the subjects so anyone can take a better photograph.
