Product Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Customer Reviews

It it a typical Nikon plastic hood, but it does fit and work well.

If you need the lens to be really small, the hood can be reversed, and snapped securely into place that way.
alf randell
It is not real deep as it has to work with the 10mm end of the lens but does provide some shading.

The hood is well made and fits the lens well. It is not real deep as it has to work with the 10mm end of the lens but does provide some shading. I do not use filters for protection so its main purpose to me is to give some protection to the lens glass which it does. The only problem I have is that a hood comes with the 30-110mm so why must one pay extra for the 10-30mm?

I was quite surprised when Nikon did not supply this hood with the camera/lens package even though the Nikon rep at the camera store promotion demonstrated the camera & lens with this hood attached (penny rich and pound poor?). A hood does come with the telephone lens. In any event, the product is up to usual excellent Nikon standards

It is great quality and works perfectly. Unfortunately, when you flip it over for storage on the lens, it almost completely blocks the lens unlock button. Nikon could have put at least one recess in the rim at the button location to avoid this. If you go to use the camera and don't need the hood, it is a little hard to unlock the lens wihtout flipping the hood.

Nikon charges a premium for this Lens Hood/Sun Shade.
Because of that I must judge it accordingly. It twists on
but doesn't lock in place. Other less expensive brands
make Sun Shades (not for nikon) that click into a detent
helping them to stay in place. This expensive Nikon doesn't
do that. The plastic even feels rather flimsy. I can't even say
its doing an effective job of blocking the sun. I'm sure sooner
or later it'll fall off and get lost. I WON'T replace it with another
Nikon!

Arrived in a timely fashion, fits fine and good accessory for Nikon V-1. Good safeguard against blurs from light for a small camera.

Any photo accessory that can make me look good for a little money is a plus in my book.It serves it purpose to help keep unwanted light/glare or flare out of your shot. I am glad I have this in my camera bag.

but it is a good addition and one should have it. So I paid the exorbitant price for this piece of plastic.

Nikon was smart to offer this but really should have included it with the lens. Nice fit and snaps solidly in place in both standard and reversed position.
