Warning - Cleaning Cloth Not for Cameras,

Unfortunately, they don't list this on the Amazon.com description, but on the box, it warns that the MicroFiber Cleaning Cloth is "Not recommended for high quality lenses." I bought this thinking I'd have an extra cleaning cloth for my SLR lens, but it looks like it'll be used for its intended use as described by the instruction leaflet: "For cleaning the HOUSINGS of digital cameras, photo equipment, etc."

Almost complete cleaning kit,

I got this kit since it was cheaper than buying the lens pens separately and the microfiber cloth. The pens are fine but the cloth isn't protected in the pouch well and will get dirty faster, you'll have to put it in one of those small plastic seal bags then inside to keep it clean. Now for those anti fog cloth/wipe things, I really think they should just be thrown out right away as they leave a film of something over your lens if you use it, and it will stay on the cloth and lens pens contaminating them if you use them to clean it off. I won't dare use those anti fog things on my Pentax lenses. That and this kit is really missing a blower, I think they should have ditched the anti fog things for another micro fiber cloth ( in a plastic something to keep it clean ) and stuck a small blower in the case. So I threw out the anti fog thing ( after I used the nikon cloth to clean up my test subjects glasses from that anti fog stuff ) and had to throw out the nikon cloth to as it is contaminated and stuck a Pentax cloth and small blower in the case with the pens, now it's all good.

I am a long time user/buyer of Nikon products. I have always felt the quality deserved the extra $ spent. This is no exception. It is compact, fits nicely in your bag, provides all you should ever need to carefully and properly clean your lenses and now the lcd screen also. However, be forewarned, if you use the anti-fog cloth, you must thoroughly remove the solution left behind, before you can again clean your lens. Instuctions are included. I never thought I would use a "lens pen" but, it works. I only dared try these because it was sold by Nikon and they stand behind their products. Just proceed carefully and gently.

Nikon Optics Pens Cleaning Pro Kit with case,

The micro-fiber cloth and the carry case are, to me; worth the $20+. In addition you get two different size pens (do not care for the anti-fog stuff and have not used it).
I paid almost as much for this kit as I have paid for one micro-fiber cloth and one pen, so the rest is a BONUS! S/H was minimal a big PLUS! If you are new to photography, there is ONE MISSING component here...a blower bulb! Make sure to purchase one and use it BEFORE you use the brush on this pen, then use the wet side of the pen for cleaning!! I use the LITTLE pen for the times I need to clean the "backside" of the lens and the bigger pen for the front LENS FILTER and/or element (DO NOT FORGET TO PUT AT LEAST A UV FILTER ON YOUR LENS!)Much cheaper to replace a filter than a LENS! A good product for a good price...and you get some "branding" as well, if you like that sort of thing.

Nice addition and cheaper than buying separately,

I bought this to have a way to clean my Nikon/Nikkor camera lenses. Buying the kit was cheaper than buying everything separately. I agree with other viewers that the anti-fog cloth may be better for, say, binoculars (which Nikon sells) than a camera. There are some rather basic instructions on how to use the pen, cloth and anti fog cloth in the case. If you are new to this sort of thing, remember the word "gentle" when cleaning lenses. Everything comes in a neat little zipper case with just a little extra room for other extras you might buy. The case also keeps everything neat and clean. No... the lens cloth does not come in its own plastic bag, but is washable if it gets dirty. If you wash it, I would stay away from things like fabric softener. If you do wash the lens cloth often enough where fabric softener is needed, buy a new cloth! If you're overly concerned about keeping it clean, you can use a plastic sandwich bag. I'm happy I bought it. If you don't already have one, buy a blower too. It seems that most people buy the Giottos Rocket Blaster 7.5". While the name sounds wierd, it really does the job for removing dust and dirt from your lenses and your camera.

Nice package of cleaning pens. The smaller one is good for my G7, while the lager is great for my 77mm lens. Fair price too.

Nice compact kit with everything you need to keep your lenses clean. Brushes, dry cleaners, micro-fiber towel, and anti-fogging towel, are all in this kit. Your lens is the eye of your camera. Keep it in top shape with products designed for precision glass.

Zippered container cheaply constructed. Brushes are useful but the whole thing can be had a a carte for much less unless you must have the Nikon brand label on your accessories. Note, enclosed instruction sheet "Important Notice - AntiFog Cloth. Antifog cloths work by applying a special thin film on the lens surface to which they are applied. If you have applied an antifog material to any lens then wipe off the film from the lens surface using a soft dry cloth before using a LensPen. After this is done, use the LensPens to restore the lens surface to a perfectly clean condition. Failure to follow these instructions will cause serious damage to a LensPen." Return cloth to envelope for storage. ...uh what? Damage? What about the lens?

Back in the day when I was shooting film (25 years ago) in SLRs cleaning the lenses, particularly of fingerprints, involved wet cleaning and could be a real hassle. After reading about the Nikon Lens Pens and the knockoffs of them I decided to buy the kit and see for myself. The kit comes with 4 items and is a little less expensive then buying the 2 pens and the Anti-Fog cloth by themselves.
The retractable brushes in the pens are terrific and store easily. The real plus with these though is the special cup shaped applicator that doesn't require liquids, or chemicals be added and appears to leave no residue behind. It's apparently a non-liquid compound on a natural chamois tip that does the fingerprint removal so well. The one downside is that the box warns that the MicroFiber Cleaning Cloth is "Not recommended for high quality lenses." and the enclosed directions indicate that it is "For cleaning the HOUSINGS of digital cameras, photo equipment, etc.". Still, it makes a convenient place to sit the lenses as they are removed for cleaning. |
