Not that you have a lot of choice in the matter... this is the only unit of its kind supplied by Nikon for the D200. The unit can take pictures, be used as a trigger (like motion detection) and works in continuous or single shot mode. It all works just as advertised and is pretty slick. The only issue is the wire: small connector and a wire that gets in the way. The older D70 had the IR built in! Why not with the D200? Yes... this is not really this product's fault.

This is another product that goes where I go. I don't use it a lot but it has never failed to function as advertised. My only question on this item is, "Why is it necessary?" Nikon has this technology and should include it in every high end digital camera.

This works. However, it is klunky, large, and the path is easily impeded. Furthermore, it is in the way when on the camera. I do like that I can be in pictures withough using the delayed release on my camera. SO I would buy it again. I do wish there was a better product available for my camera. I am dissapointed by Nikon.

I just received this item. While I agree that it is pricey and the functionj should be built-in like the D70, it does work as stated. If a flash is needed, there is a bracket that can be purchased to hold the receiver...or a small piece of Velcro would work too. The infrared trigger works well for me...and annoys the cats. It is a little bulky, but not huge.

I read the reviews of this item before purchasing it and the reviews of other (non-Nikon) similar items.
The biggest complaint that I saw regarding the Nikon was the price. I agree. The reviews of the performane of the similar non-Nikon items that I read were a very mixed bag of quality, performance and reliability issues. I bit the bullet and bought the Nikon. I haven't been disappointed. It's pricey for what it is and what it does but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Works but wish the D700 was like my D70 with this builtin,

I was disappointed from before ordering this product.. Its a much needed product for me but the one that was on the D70s was smaller, much cheaper, and no extra modules on the camera was needed. I could even use my pda's infrared to activate it. I could keep the remote in my pocket and quickly use it anytime it was needed. The D700 I have to plug in the module and use a much larger remote and there are a bunch of other switches on it that I'll most likely never use. Also, if I want to use my SB600 speedlight I need the extra mount or dangle it over the side. Not good considering the D700 is considered high-end consumer camera versus the low end D70s

This redmote control works fine. Maybe it's my inexperience using the device; but I've not been able to trigger my shutter unless the transmitter is very close (<6") to the receiver.

Better Alternative,
This review is from: Nikon ML-3 Compact Modulite Remote Set (Electronics)
There are several Chinese (I Know) alternatives available that work
beautifully and cost about 30.00. Some are even more versatile than Nikon's version. Check Ebay. |
