I bought this strap to go with my binoculars. It is nicely made of what seems to be foam-filled neoprene. That is what makes it float. It is contoured at the neck in three sections which makes it more comfortable.

It is very bulky though. With the strap attached the binoculars will no longer fit in the case. Also "Nikon" is printed in bright yellow on both sides in HUGE letters which makes it less desirable for hunting or birdwatching. It's probably best for boating.

Just a quick tip for anyone who's recently bought a Canon Powershot D10 underwater camera (or one with similar pinhole-variety strap mounts), and doesn't want to shell over the $100+ for their accessory kit (or, if you phone them, I think $70 for just the neck strap and the [pointless] shoulder strap). Do this:

(1) Phone Canon and order 2 additional strap mounts (the camera will have already come with 1, for the included wrist strap).
(2) Order Nikon's floating neck strap: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Marine-Grade-Floating-Neckstrap/dp/B000075BCZ
(3) Go to anyplace that sells fishing gear (I went to Sports Chalet), and buy split rings (what's that?: [...]). Size 9 probably works best; get the closest to that that you can. You could, of course, just pull a couple of these off your key rings, but I'm thinking/hoping that the ones made for fishing won't rust as easily, and I know that they're stronger. But don't get much stronger than 40 lbs test -- get much stronger and you won't be able to work with it.
(4) Use the split rings to permanently attach the Canon strap mounts to the ends of the Nikon neck strap; that's 2 split rings, 2 strap mounts, and 2 ends of the 1 neck strap.

Tools I needed were: my fingernail (to start to pry apart the split ring), a flathead screwdriver (to finish prying it apart and then hold it like that for a moment while I slid on the strap mount), and a counter-mounted vice (I stood there in the bicycle repair dept at Sports Chalet and used theirs!...they didn't mind a bit; the vice gave me the steady extra hand I needed to hold the split ring in place while I pried it apart and slid on the strap mount). To get the split ring (which will be securely on the strap mount now!) on the end of the neck strap, you can just disassemble and then reassemble the strap's buckling; you'll see what I mean when you go to do it.

Now you have a strap that will allow you to keep your camera handier than it would be in any other place while you're paddling, and allow you to film your shenanigans (the Canon D10, at least, has that function) while your hands are left free for paddling. Unlike the non-floating Canon neck strap, it will keep your camera from sinking like a rock into the inky depths after that breaking surge demolishes you out of nowhere. It will look cool. You will have made it yourself, sort of. Enjoy.

most importantly this strap will not "float" any camera with a substantial lens attached. In hot weather it is just too hot to even hang on your neck,and it takes up way too much room in any camera case. Apart from these criticisms it looks great!
