The 105 VR macro lens is a true masterpiece. It's resolution and color registration far exceed any lens I now have or have worked with before. There is no question that it is worth the money. If you are doing serious photography, surely it is a must. If you are still climbing that ladder, as I am, then it is an expensive, but very important, rung up.

My only thought on the lens any future purchaser should know is that the VR doesn't seem to work well when the lens is physically, as opposed to optically, close to it's target object. But, it's aperture is so high that a shorter exposure time will compensate for that, unless a larger f-number is chosen for depth of field considerations. Then a tripod and cable release, perhaps with a mirror-up setting on the camera, is a good alternate given the amazing lens overall performance. I can easily live with that option.

Be sure you receive what you expect. I ordered this at about a $200 premium due to shortages when I wanted it. Some prices were much higher. But, it took a phone call and an email back to Amazon before I received the Nikon 5 year lens extended warranty. That said, it did all eventually work out. The email to Amazon did the trick. I did receive the Nikon 5 year extended warranty paperwork. My advice is to stick with whom Amazon supports and let them handle your follow-ups. They came through for me.
