I considered Nikon 1 system because of the compact size and great image quality pictures it is able to produce. Nikon 1 cameras have smaller sensors. Many people wave it off due to this reason. Well, my J1 is capable of producing great images regardless of it's sensor size. I already have Canon 7D and I wanted something small for carry everywhere. I chose J1 over the V1 because of weight and size. Still, there had to be reason for Nikon choosing the smaller sensor. Many people say that they were afraid of eating into their DSLR sales, but I don't think so. It's about portability to serve a different need. Nikon 1 lenses other than the monstrous 10-100mm VR prove it. Their lenses are very small and light. I have extensive lenses for my 7D. I am not looking to replace that system. I just need essentials for my compact kit. Well, this lens makes most sense for people who want to carry a single lens that is portable and versatile at times. I have a small camcorder bag for my J1 and 3 lenses. (Lighter than carry my DSLR with a single lens!) Still, sometimes I don't even want to carry that bag around. I want a pocketable camera. Well, I usually take 18.5mm f/1.8 lens but I wanted something more versatile. 10-30mm vr while very small was still slightly big to take it out and put comfortably in my jacket pocket. This lens is perfect as it fits comfortably in my jacket pocket and at times, in my pant pocket... well, not as comfortable but it goes in at least... As for the picture quality, it's as good or slightly better than the 10-30mm. Still, almost all the Nikon 1 lenses that I have tried are very good in terms of quality. The portability and image quality makes this lens a worth purchase for those who are minimalists. One more thing, it's one fine looking lens just like my J1. I know looks don't make better pictures. Still, it doesn't hurt to look so good especially if it is capable as well~

I have developed my latest camera gear into a professionally worthy system, and the Nikon 1 Nikkor 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.5.6 (White) lens is a worthy addition. Clarity through it's range, it is superb for fast, close-in work. I have a Nikon 1 J1 and a Nikon 1 V2, and all of the Nikkor lenses that these camera bodies can handle. For rapid acquisition of your subject, a wider than normal view, yet still fast enough light gathering, this lens is great as a daily lens, with crispness, and sharp, clear images. A "must" for the photographer, giving a needed tool for your camera bag, and your photography... Five out of Five Stars, and yes, I have recommended it to friends...

I hesitated to buy this as it is so close to the kit lens which 10-30mm. But this is a superb lens: lightweight, small, with a great zoom to go from close-ups to portraits. Great clarity. Fast in low-light conditions.

Great value, especially on sale. Great addition to the Nikon 1 line of cameras. I have the J1, J2, and the J3.

Great lens! This was a substitute for my original lens that was broken in Cuba. The substitute worked just fine.
