5.0 out of 5 stars Monarch 800 - Best in Class, December 21, 2006
By
This review is from: NIKON SPORT OPTICS (Misc.)
I use my rangefinder for golf and have used products from both Simmons and Bushnell. The Nikon Monarch 800 is in a class by itself in terms of quality of construction, ease of use and performance. The Near Target Priority Mode makes it simple and fast to get yardages to flagsticks or course features. The laser is very sensitive and will detect flagsticks even when the flags are hanging limp and when there are no reflectors on them. It is compact and comes with a high quality carry pouch. It is well worth the money and blows away anything else I've tried.

Wanted to write this review after not finding one on this product from anyone who used it for golf. After purchasing the Nikon 800 Monarch Rangefinder I used it for the first time today for golf. This product worked great, easy to use, and helped me dial in the distance. I would recommend this item for use in golf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a champ!, July 7, 2008

Got the Nikon 800 rangefinder last week and have used it on two rounds of golf so far. It works like a champ. Easy to carry and easy to use. Lightweight, picks out your target very quickly (no warm up time), and the scan mode is great to make sure you've hit your desired target.

Caveats: I've only ranged flags up to 250 yds (haven't tried anything farther). The farther you are the more difficult it is to hold the rangefinder steady on your target, so you're more likely to get objects in the background as your hand moves back & forth. You just have to learn to toss out the 310 yd reading and use the 250 yd one instead.

If using for golf, note that the default setting is NOT First Target Priority. Read the directions to set it to FTP. You'll see a "G" in the display if FTP is set correctly (who knows what "G" means!).

p.s. I bought the kit with the orange hunting vest and the retractable lanyard. Don't know what I'm going to do with the vest, but the retractable lanyard is great to hang the rangefinder off my golf bag. I only wonder if its exterior will be scratched up over time...

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, October 23, 2009
This review is from: NIKON SPORT OPTICS (Misc.)
Purchased for golf and hunting. Golf: Had to experiment a bit to find best way for pin yardage, started panning the flag and it works fine, distances are accurate; I rely on the rangefinder now even though I have a GPS. And it works fine for hunting. I also like the size, not too big and fits in your hand comfortably.
