This review is from: Nikon SB-23 AF TTL Speedlight Flash (Electronics)
I purchased one of the last Nikon FM=3a made. Everyone's gone digital, it seems, but I love to shoot in extreme conditions, usually when it is well below zero. I do have several digital cameras, but I worry about the ability to perform in very cold climes.
The basic, non-auto focus film camera is a good choice here. If the bare-bones electronics fail, you can still shoot by using an external light meter, or by bracketing your shot (stopping up and down from what you think the best exposure should be). Of course, I also shoot friends, family, and pets indoors or at night. For that, you need a flash. It seems that with 228 reviews, the SB-400 AF is a popular flash. It's a bit pricey, though, and I wanted to spend less than that, if I could. Hence, the SB-23 AF. It does work on a non-auto focus camera. It flashes a bright flash that is more than adequate for the camera. The light is bright and color-balanced so that the negatives come out color-true. Four and a half stars for the Nikon SB-23 AF. I'm happy with it, and I think you'll be too. |
