Product Description
The Nikon SD-9 Battery Pack is designed for use with the SB-900 to shorten flash recycling time and increase flash capacity. It accepts 4 or 8 1.5V LR6 (AA size alkaline), 1.2V KR-AA (AA size NiCd), 1.5V FR6 (AA size lithium) or 1.2 AA size Ni-MH batteries.

As a professional photographer, fast flash recycle times are often the difference between getting the shot and not getting the shot. One can use heavy units like Quantum but they often require expensive and unreliable accessory cables and are very expensive and if you are in the field with no power source, you are out of luck if you run down the charge. Since this unit takes AA's (I use rechargeables with Alkalines as emergency backup) this is not a problem and it provides very fast flash recycle times. A feature that allows this battery pack to be mounted to the base of the camera is a thoughtful addition. An excellent product.

This battery pack is not for everyone. It's pricy, a bit bulky and only works with the SB-900 speedlight. However, if you make your living taking pictures, this is worth every cent. I am amazed with the improved recycle time. I can snap away much faster with my speedlight. Photos that were lost before are now captured. The pack is very well made. I use the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable AA batteries because they hold the charge longer.

I LOVE this battery pack. Its the first pack I've ever owned, but there is no need to search for another. It delivers an amazing recycle time with my rechargeable AA batteries and I can honestly get away with only changing out my batteries once or twice an event (wedding, concert, etc).
When doing more casual shoots, the pack is small enough to fit in my pant back pocket. Otherwise I attach it to a waist-pack strap or belt.
I would definitely recommend this product to all my friends and family!

Worthwhile, and won't kill your 900

Great, useful product
This works great! For anyone that needs to take multiple flash pictures, you can't go wrong with this. Sure saves on having to stop and replace the batteries in your flash.
