Product Description

The SU-4 Wireless Remote TTL Flash Controller enables wireless remote flash with automatic TTL or manual exposure control and can be attached to any current Nikon Speedlight and many previous models. The SU-4 detects the firing of the master flash (including built-in Speedlight) and sends a firing start signal to the slave unit, then terminates the firing of the slave flash by detecting firing stop signal. This eliminates the need for a connecting cord. This unit operates effectively up to 23 or 25 feet from the location of the main flash.

This review is from: Nikon SU-4 Wireless Remote Flash Controller (Electronics)
I bought the SU4 so I could use my SB-28 along with my SB-800. I hated having one flash that worked with my newer digital camera, and a separate flash for my film camera. With this, I can use my SB-28 off camera as a wireless unit; giving me one more device to include in my creative lighting system.

I would have liked to see the unit work as an actual wireless system, instead of a sync flash. The sync has to be able to see the original on-board flash go off to use it.
