It's the only stuff that effectively "waterproofs" motorcycle riding suits. When properly used, it is good for 12 hours of motorcycle riding in the rain.

Once every few years I reapply this in a small bowl and waterproofing is restored. My thin cycling rain jersey must be 25 years old now and even that works fine again. I also use it on a 17 year old Dianese Cordura Motorcyle jacket and breathable waterproofs.

Machine wash in an upright washer needs the whole bottle. Hand wash is easy and needs only a cap full.

Note: We wash the garments with Tech Wash.

If you need water proofing... buy this. I live in Oregon, my husband and I commute on bike. I have waterproof clothes I bought years ago for my husband and the water proofer wore off on them. I washed them in my front loader with this product and they are waterproof again. The bottle says they are environmentally friendly and non-toxic too which is what I was looking for. I washed shoes with it and also a tarp for a bunny cover outside. They all worked. I will buy this again.

Good product. Used it on hunting garments to bring back waterproofing. First day in the woods in a steady rain, kept the water out on the shoulders and back. Still got wet on the arms, but not soaked, as before the treatment. The only drawback is it's not permanent and will have to keep rewashing every year.

This is the best product (and only product) I use to maintain the performance of my garments and gear. Most people don't realize that there waterproof garments need treatment, but they do, at least annually or after frequent use. This product washes in and re-coats the DWR (durable water repellency) that most garments and gear are initially treated with when purchased. This is what causes the water to bead off your gear and prevents it from saturating it.

The instructions direct adding it instead of the soap in the washing machine. This resulted in a marginally waterproof jacket. Spoke with a person who has used this product extensively and was told two things:1)If you do it in the washing machine, skip the soap and add it as you would a fabric softener. This makes sense, as soap gets rinsed out, fabric softener not so much. 2) He also told me the spray bottle was more concentrated, and he uses it to spray on his clothing, then irons it with a warm iron. Not sure about this for a motorcycle jacket, but what he said about the rinse cycle sure makes sense. I wonder why Nikwax instructions do not mention this.

I've used Nikwax TX-Direct and Nikwash for years to clean and renew the DWR (durable water repellant) properties on my motorcycling jackets and pants, which are Cordura nylon lined with Goretex. You must follow the directions "to the letter" for these products to work their magic. You should also consult the garment's manufacturer for instructions. I've heard arguments that using a wash-in DWR product on Goretex membranes will reduce their venting properties, but I've been doing it for many years and miles and have yet to experience reduced venting.

This was my 1st time using this product. Well used ski pants that absorbed all snow sitting on the chairlift and while skiing. This product completely took care of that,
