Customer Reviews

Easy to apply, waited to have it dry then polished.
M. A. Rivadeneira
Works great on my boots, keeps the leather and laces supple and easier to apply then most other waterproofing waxes.
John Miller
Works very well, sponge applicator under cap kind of gums up after a while.

I have tried many waterproofing products for my LLBean hunting boots and my Asolo hiking boots. This is by far the best. As an earlier reviewer noted, there is no need to heat up the leather as with other products. This goes on easily and does an excellent waterproofing job. Athough I am out in all kinds of bad weather, walking through mud, streams and muck, my socks and feet stay dry. I apply only once a year. I prefer the tube applied by hand. I put on thin latex gloves to apply it. Note that when you first get the tube you should spend some time squeezing and massaging the tube to mix up any separated ingredients. If you just open a new tube you are likely to get a thin liquid coming out first. I only had to do that once with a new tube - after the first use I did not have to mix it again. A really excellent product.

The trick with waterproofing leather is not to soften or weaken the leather so the boot, shoe, belt, glove, holster, portfolio, purse or harness, retains its shape, strength, and support. For years the gold standard was Snow Seal, a bees' wax based treatment and it's still very effective. But Nikwax is better.

Nikwax applies a little less messy, much faster, with no "melting in" time, almost no drying time, dries harder, and lasts longer too. While it looks fine with nothing more than hand application, once completely dry it takes a nice sheen with a shoe brush, and you can get a high polish if you finish over it with a paste shoe wax. Compared to Snow Seal, very thin coats are all you need, the carriers and polymers in the formula wick it into the leather very efficiently and are really tough.

I've only used it on smooth or rough out leather, it does smooth the rough out over time though not as much as Snow Seal. They make a suede formula but I haven't tried it because suede is really only good for dry weather anyway.

It will darken the leather over time, so beware with light colors or tans. Of course a rain soaking will also darken and stain these so...

Overall: highly recommended, best solution I've used. I prefer the waxy tube or tin rubbed in by hand, over the liquid bottle and applicator brush, but that's just a personal preference. The suede formula is only available in the liquid. My big tip: several thin coats are much, much better than one heavy coat.

I've used this wax before and needed a new tube. It's the best. I just coated my expensive Meindle boots and my Danners. It is almost scent free and seems improved over the old formula. After it drys/cures it is pretty much scent free. Make sure your boots are clean and simply rub it on. It helps if the leather is warm - I use a hair dryer to heat the boots up first. After a few days you can buff the boots to finish them off. Good stuff.

I have a pair of snake-proof/water-proof hunting boots. There was a small leak that I could not find or repair. Over the last two years I used several spray products from local dept. stores and sporting goods stores. Putting multiple layers on, multiple times. Still wet feet when I got back to camp. After looking at several products on Amazon. This one seemed the easiest to apply. While I waited for delivery, I used a hose and brush on my boots then set them aside to dry. When the product arrived I applied the wax with my finger and made sure to get every inch. There was a good coat of wax on the boots. I then decided to use a hair dryer in hope the wax would seep into every area. A day later I noticed I still had a half tube left, so I put another coat on the boots. Can you tell I applied the product? yes. Are my feet dry after two days of walking thru swamp, mud and standing water? YES. Finally a product that worked.

Excellent stuff! little crazy putting on boots, need some kind of applicator .. Make your own , didn't like using a rag cause this stuff is not a paste. it's got like a pancake consistency to it.. Once it's on it is a solid product just what I wanted it to be.

I use this cream regularly on my snowmobile gloves. Works great. And waterproofs them. Keeps the leather soft and clean.

You cannot beat NikWax for waterproofing any garment in any material and this is the same for hiking boots--we're headed to Ireland where a "light mist" is what we in America call a thunderstorm!

This stuff works great after application. I don't know how long it will hold up, but, water immediate beads on contact with leather boots.
