Easy, delicious lunch!,

This review is from: Nile Spice Split Pea Soup, Low Fat, 1.8-Ounce Cups (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I've used Subscribe & Save for many products, but this is my favorite! Add hot water, then let it sit for 5 minutes before eating---easy! The soup is thick and flavorful, with bits of onion, carrot, and celery (the label also lists potatos, but I've never noticed them). I've always had ham in my split pea soup, but don't even miss it in this.
Comparing the Nile Spice split pea with a brand name can of split pea w/ham & bacon soup from my cupboard, per serving: the sodium content is lower in the Nile Spice soup (600 mg vs. 850 mg), and it has more fiber (8 g vs. 5 g) and protein (13 g vs. 10 g). Nile Spice is 200 calories, the brand name serving has 180. Overall, this is big bang for the buck. I have it at least once a week for lunch at work, and with a piece of fruit, it's the perfect amount to hold me til late afternoon.

Satisfying,

This soup is a great value, flavorful, has a great pea-soup consistency, and is very healthy. I prefer this soup to Nile Spice's Black Bean soup, which is less tasty and satisfying in my opinion. This soup's 13g of protein, 8g of fiber, great taste and convenience for $1.00 is the best lunch value I've found.

I love split pea soup but I don't make it much any more. This is so quick and I can dress it up in seconds with my favorite curry powder AND the price is right!

Such a tasty product. Do follow the directions. After pouring in the boiling water, it is necessary to wait the full 5 minutes for the soup to fully hydrate. Very creamy after the mandatory time is up!

Instant, Delicious & No Gluten,

I keep these in my desk at work for the frequent times I just can't break away, but often I choose to eat them anyway because they're just so good. I'm gluten intolerant, so anything that tastes this good and doesn't make me ill is a Godsend!

I have always loved pea soup -- home made, of course, being the best. But, if you have no time to get out the pots and pans and work over a hot stove for hours, Nile Spice Split Pea Soup is a fine substitute. It might not be Grandma's soup, but I consider it a big notch above the canned pea soup, and it's easy to tote around and makes an (almost) instant lunch at work. The trick is to let it sit for the recommended five minutes, or more. The flavor and texture are excellent. If you prefer a touch more spice, add pepper to taste.
Stock up, and you'll never be without a comforting, nutritious bowl of thick soup! Yummm!

I was surprised to see the finished (hydrated product). It's thick and textured like mashed potatoes. Not that I'm complaining - mashed potatoes are a real comfort food to me. It's just much less like soup than I had anticipated. It does have a smokey hammy flavor, but I seriously doubt they put actual ham in it. It's pretty good. Again, a little salty, (25% of your rdv for sodium) but tasty.

Nile Spice is my favorite brand of all of the instant soups I have tried, and Split Pea is my favorite flavor among the Nile Spice soups. This vegetarian soup is just the right consistency, has a great texture, and is quite delicious & very satisfying. The flavor is surprisingly rich, particularly for a vegetarian soup, and it tastes very much like a homemade split pea soup.

I have a cup of this soup 4 or 5 times a week. All I do is boil water and in a few minutes I have a warm cup of nutritious soup. The powder doesn't clump and bind when I add water, like some other brands do. Instead, it dissolves quickly and easily with just a few stirs. It's the right serving size, too... filling but not over-sized. Some other brands are so large, there are actually TWO servings in the cardboard cup. (Read the labels if you don't believe me!) Now how are you supposed to handle that - throw half away? Store it in your desk? Right. I like the vegetables and the balanced seasoning in the Nile Spice version of Split Pea Soup; again, it's just right. Because I like Split Pea and the rest of my family doesn't, the instant soup is an effortless way to eat nutritiously, and I buy it by the case.

This is by far the best tasting instant soup. Sadly, for myself the sodium content was too high. If you have no health issues concerning sodium then order this soup. You will not go wrong. Regrettably, anyone with sodium concerns needs to steer clear.
