Product Description

Fully Pivoting, Patented Woofer Assembly focuses the bass and midrange tones directly into the listening area (pivots up to 20 degrees). Twist & Lock(TM) Baffle and Frame Mechanism facilitates quick installation and trouble-free upgrades. Integrated Woofer / baffle design delivers greater low frequency response by employing a 7-inch woofer where competitive models employ 6 1/2-inch woofers. Ropylene Cone is light, strong and well damped to provide best in class bass response. Butyl Rubber Surround damps resonance and provides exceptional durability. 1-inch Fluid-cooled UltraSilk(TM) Soft-dome Tweeter provides for clear and detailed high frequency response. Proprietary Bridge-mounted Tweeter-adjustment Mechanism focuses the high frequency sound in any direction up to 20 degrees without diffraction. Includes Flush-mount MicroPerf(TM) Aluminum Grille for a clean and unobtrusive look. 3 Position Tweeter Level Control provides for precise matching to room acoustics. Weather Resistant Construction reduces installation limitations and provides unique solutions in moist environments or outdoors under eaves.

This review is from: Niles CM730DS Directed soundfield in-ceiling speakers (Electronics)
There are so many choices on in-ceiling speakers. I had never used them so I didn't have a clue. I contacted a home-theater consultant and he recommended the Niles brand (which I had never heard of).

I took a leap of faith and bought two pairs and I am ecstatic with their performance. Because of their larger midrange woofer, they blend extremely well with my sub, which creates a harmonious sound stage and blends perfectly with the action on screen.

I was really worried about in-ceiling performance. If you have to go in-ceiling, you are already sacrificing a little bit. But these speakers compensate by allowing you to aim the output. They are truly aimable; once installed, you can aim the woofer and the seperate tweeter anywhere you want.

Installation was a snap. We simply used a pencil to mark an outline of the provided templates, cut the hole exactly as drawn and they slid right into place without having to muscle them in. But the best part is that the speaker twists/snaps in and out of the frame. The frame slides into place, you tighten the screws and then you snap in the heavy part; the speaker. They sit very solid in the ceiling, no rattle or movement.

The sound is outstanding. It sounds and feels like what I hear in the theaters. I didn't expect them to be so responsive and consistant. They are crisp, deep and durable. They have so far reproduced the toughest battle scenes without distorting.

Did I mention they integrated seamlessly with the sub? Because there is no perceivable frequency gap, the audio is seamless, unlike having cubes and a sub...with that setup I always feel directed towards the sub because the cubes don't carry any of the lower frequencies. Now, the audio landscape is full and seamless.

If you are on the fence, take a leap of faith and buy these speakers. They are a great bargain at a great price and they really deliver.
