About the Author

Jon Batson is mostly known for his original songs, including five stage musicals and a string of album releases. Now he has turned his talents to story telling of a different sort with short stories and complete novels. The original short stories "Powder Monkey of Cape Fear," "Gaston's Last Run" and "Love at the Lumina Pavilion" were winners in the annual Lower Cape Fear Historical Society Short Story Contest for 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively. Two of Jon's stories have been awarded Honorable Mention by Writers of the Future. His journal for songwriters, 'The Songwriter's Hook Book,' is used by songwriters worldwide and is available online and in select stores. Jon recently returned to his boyhood stomping grounds and is living with his wife Eileen in Raleigh, North Carolina where he is working on his next novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kind of Spirit We Need!, May 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Jon Batson is a cup-running-over of fast witted irony, cute sarcasm ala snappy come backs and just plain Dash that keeps the reader blinking while following the plot - repleat with book-end flashbacks and a couple of time-loops tossed in no extra charge! The story also conveys many important and healing, spirit-restoring messages - such as 'it's good for good people to be "dangerous" too!' - And even deeper ones like 'a person can, at any time, step from a state of "relative non-beingness" into a state of "full-blown" beingness'. Also - 'it is possible to be sane and have honor by yet harming when in a just cause'. I give bravos and kudos to Jon for injecting this kind of story into the world - and into the current confusions about honor and inner strength - or the thought-to-be lack of - being perpetrated by so much of the current degraded novels of today!
