5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Set Delivered by a Great Stage Lineup February 27, 2007
"Beside You in Time" is a live DVD compiling performances from the 2005-06 "With Teeth" arena shows. The performances showcase the current visceral Nine Inch Nails lineup, mostly focusing on the energy of the band members rather than effects and stage theatrics - this is a contrast from the "And All that Could have Been" DVD that chronicled 2001's Fragility tour. The addition of Aaron North on guitar and Josh Freese on drums make this the most immediately gratifying NIN lineup ever, i.e. most of the sounds that you hear are actually being generated by the five men on stage. North in particular puts on a one-man show of hyperactive fury while never losing his touch with the guitar duties. The DVD presentation purposefully adds very little to the performance, opting to let the intensity speak for itself. It's a very worthwhile chronicle of a Nine Inch Nails tour that was both familiar and also subtly unique.

Reznor's voice immediately stands out as much improved over the Fragility tour; his newfound sobriety suits the performances very well. He holds sway over the crowd on both high-energy classics like "Wish" and "Gave Up" as well as heart-rending ballads such as "Hurt" and "Right Where It Belongs".

The backing band is arguably the strongest to ever bear the Nine Inch Nails name, primarily due to the addition of Aaron North on guitar. North struts, jumps, flails and kicks while never losing a single note of his licks. Jeordie White manages to finally make the bass line heard in a NIN live show, something that his predecessors never could do. Alessandro Cortini is a bit of a step down from Charlie Clouser; he quietly manages the samples and sequences while sometimes letting entire synth lines go unheard ("Only").

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Audio + Video Quality. January 29, 2007
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I saw this at the preview party that was held in Los Angeles and the quality is great. I can't vouch for the extras, alternate camera angles, etc. But the video and especially audio mix are nothing less than you would expect from a NIN product. I personally saw this tour on 4 separate dates and can honestly say that this reproduction is right on with the live experience.

If you are a NIN fan you already know you need this, but for everyone else that is just curious I advise you to take a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth It March 1, 2007
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I've been going to concerts for over 35 years and the summer tour NIN show that I was able to attend was easily in my top five concert appearances of all time. The music, light show, showmanship and overall concert experience was amazing. I've seen many hall of fame acts (Zep, Stones, Who, Grateful Dead, Eagles etc etc.) live and this was truly exceptional stuff.

The setlist covers everything from "Pretty Hate Machine" through "With Teeth" (Head Like a Hole, Terrible Lie, Closer, Hurt, March of the Pigs, The Hand That Feeds, Wish, Only, The Big Come Down, Beside You in Time etc. etc.). My only wish is there were more from "The Fragile" on it (the show I saw had Into the Void, Somewhat Damaged and La Mer played). The setlist is outstanding however. Additional footage from the summer portion of the tour are part of the extras along with photographic stills and rehearsal footage. Even the credits in the movie are interesting/cool. Three of the songs have alternate camera angles.

This is an amazing DVD. The sound and video in Blu-ray really are stunning. This is easily the best concert DVD I own and most closely recreates any concert experience I've ever had. It's wonderful, exciting, vital stuff and I highly recommend it.

If you are a fan of the band/Trent and own a Blu-ray player you are going to want this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now you're down in it... February 27, 2007
If you like NIN (I've been a fan since '89) then this is the quintessential concert experience.

The titles are non-invasive and you feel like you're closer to the stage then you could ever be.

The HD is impecable and so clear that it's amazing. The light show is impressive, yet not overpowering. The mix from the board is good in that you can hear the band but not the crowd.

Thank goodness for Blu-Ray and thank goodness for nin.

Better then And All That Could Have Been? Only becuase it's Blu-Ray.

An almost perfect mix of old and new.

oh and ladies, Trent's totally buff now. Meow.

5.0 out of 5 stars New NIN DVD is Intense! January 24, 2007
By AngieZ.
The new DVD, Beside You In Time [Halo_22] f'in rocks! It sounds incredible and was filmed amazingly with all different camera angles from right in front of Trent to the guitar to Alessandro pounding the keyboards to the crowd. It is very interesting watching the band play so close up. Trent's performance is intense and he looks good too! Hot leather pants and buff arms. The lights add so much to the experience. This DVD is going to be so intense on good av systems! I particularly like the views of the fans/crowd, it makes it feel like you're right there at the show. You can watch a new clip each week on the website until the release date. This is a must have-have for all NIN fans. It will be released on February 27th in the US. You can pre-order it here on Amazon.[...]

5.0 out of 5 stars NIN is back and better than ever March 16, 2007
The first thing you'll notice when you pop in Beside You in Time, is Trent Reznor's new look and rejuvinated attitude. This shows throughout this excellent concert DVD, focusing mainly on Nine Inch Nails' last studio album "With Teeth". Beside You in Time captures Nine Inch Nails at their best live, steaming forward full speed as they blister through many "With Teeth" tracks along with old favorites and standards like "Closer", "Head Like a Hole", "Hurt", "Terrible Lie", and "Wish". The band sounds tighter and is more energetic than they have been in the past few years (while "And All That Could Have Been" was excellent, NIN shows much more energy, and dare I say it, passion, this time around) which is the best feature of everything on this surprisingly packed, and affordable, DVD. If there's any downside to "Beside You in Time", it's that some other songs would have been more than welcome on the set list (like "We're in This Together"), but for what you get here, that's only a minor gripe at best. The videos for "The Hand That Feeds" and "Only" are included here as well, nicely rounding out this spectacular disc. All in all, NIN fans already know that "Beside You in Time" is an absolute must own.

Why doesn't AMAZON list HD DVD and Blu-Ray Versions?
Most likely because price points have not yet been set for the HD and Blu-Ray versions. It's easy to price DVDs, they've been around long enough - the other two formats, especially Blu-Ray, are entirely new, and it's probably fairly tough to gauge how much customers are willing to pay.

I'm sure... Read More

Are you referring to the DVD or the Blu-Ray? The Blu-Ray is region free. Not sure about the DVD, but according to the BYIT faq, it will play on any NTSC player.

No official info here, but since Trent's in LA, he's seeming to focus on filming and releasing the performances he does there - I can imagine because it's closer, he's able to rest up and really put on a good show, and from the two clips and the trailer, it looks like this DVD is more... Read More
