Book Description

July 15, 2008
The lack of faith Sam carried with him for years had never given him reason to pause, not even for a moment, until tragedy on a rain-slick road rearranged his life, and his son's, permanently. As Sam drudges through life as a widower and single parent, concepts form that lead him to believe the tragedy of a few months prior may not have been an accident, but instead a design of fate he had somehow evaded. As everyday life revolves around him, Sam begins to experience ominous events pointing to the reality of what might have been... his own death. Eventually, Sam's lack of faith is exchanged for fear as he concludes that it is not his life that is in jeopardy but quite possibly his soul. With guidance from a close friend of the family, Sam journeys south to a city known for its passion of the supernatural and occult. There he finds a more menacing presence that throws his being into chaos and threatens the very lives of the people around him.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I began writing in 2002.  An idea for a story, (Nine Lives) began a few years before that.  I had no writing background or training and the few people I knew that did write did not like or want my story.  After a little persuasion from my wife, I started an outline that quickly became a full novel.
After Nine Lives, I continued writing because I found, much to my surprise, I enjoyed writing. I enjoy putting a scene and characters together on paper.  A few years back, I spoke to another writer on-line and we agreed that writing can induce a euphoric feeling very much like a Runners High.  I knew at that point I found my true life's work.                                                                                                                  Before I begin writing, I usually have gone over scenes, plots and twists many times and I am very interested to see how it turns out.
What I am trying to create is realistic characters in realistic situations.  I know for myself, if I can't identify with the characters, I loose interest in a story.  Another aspect is, although I write in the paranormal supernatural genre, I try to keep a strong sense of reality within the story.  I think it makes the surrealistic parts stand out that much more.  One of the more difficult parts to writing is putting abstract ideas into words.  Another part of the writing process that I find mysterious is the marketing end.  Both have an aloof quality to them in that you are trying to present an idea or feeling to another person; make them feel what you feel.  My greatest joy or accomplishment is when I hear from a person who has read my story and enjoys it at the same emotional level as when I wrote it.  Being able to pass along those feelings are very much magic.
Stephen King and Anne Rice are two writers that I try to keep in mind when I write.  I try to match or pull my writing up from what I consider ordinary to a level that these two authors have done throughout their careers.   If you purchase my book, I want you to do so because you like my writing and continue to follow what I do.
If I had a chance to sit down and talk to an author it would be Edgar Allen Poe.  I enjoy non-conventional people and he falls into that category to the extreme.
I am finalizing my second novel, The Thirteenth Sign and getting it ready to be edited.  I am hoping to have it in print before the end of the year.  It is also a paranormal mystery that is character driven as is written in the first person.  The Thirteenth Sigh is the first novel in a series I am writing.
Typically I write very early in the morning.  My mind is very busy at that hour and I let it go fee or it gets tangled in its own leash!

More About the Author

Frank Say (F. Say) has spent most of his life in South Western Pennsylvania. A few years back Frank had an odd but exciting idea for a story and would tell his future wife about his idea. After hearing the story several times, she finally said, "Well, why don't you do something about it?" With no formal training in journalism or writing and no one else interested in the idea other than him, Frank began compiling an outline. The outline quickly grew into three hand written marble composition note books with scenes, characters and chapters. That was back in 2001.
The name of that story was Nine Lives and after completion of that process, Frank came to a wonderful conclusion: He absolutely loved writing!
Nine Lives was published in 2008. Not slowing down, Frank began work on his second novel, The Thirteenth Sign which will be the start of a new series, "The Lake Pontchartrain Mysteries" and continue in the genre of paranormal fiction.
Recently listed in the 2010 edition of "50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading" produced by The Author's Show, Frank is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he currently lives in South Western Pennsylvania with his wife and cat.

I am a big reader and read all kinds of genre. F. Say's first book is very different from any other books I have ever read. His writing style is amazing. It is full of beautiful prose and vivid description on every single page. You feel like you are part of the scenery. The book is very suspenseful. It makes you wonder what will happen next. Lots of surprises and twists. F. Say has great imagination. Anyone who likes ghosts, supernatural and paranormal will absolutely love this book. It is a page turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put it down!, August 23, 2009
This review is from: Nine Lives (Paperback)
Nine Lives is part sci-fi, part thriller, part family drama, with a lesson on faith woven throughout. The entire book is riveting and I couldn't put it down. Written in a manner that keeps the reader involved and eager to learn what's next, Frank Say has a winner in his first book. For a man who told me in our interview that he disliked writing in school, he learned his lessons well. While reading Nine Lives, you will cry, laugh, and most of all, wonder just how anyone could come up with a story line that keeps you guessing at every turn of the page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read, August 2, 2009
This review is from: Nine Lives (Paperback)
Frank Say has written an interesting, compelling first novel. The search for answers to questions that seem impossible to answer and the situations that arise from that search creates a page turning experience. I personally am looking forward to more literary productions from this author. Recommended read for anyone who is interested in the paranormal and otherworldly adventures.
