The horror movie that bores you to death,
By Juancito Trucupey "Not Easily Impressed" (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
If you want to rent this movie because Paris Hilton is on the box, please be a 12-14 year old. Otherwise, start immediately exploring ways to be more interesting to other people. But I digress...as stated in other reviews, she will provide no real excitement-no more than seeing her on the cover of the Enquirer. She's killed of for good early n, and the rest are killed one by one by some ghost, which the heroine lectures on endlessly, her non-stop droning will grate on your nerves for sure. That's pretty much it. Oh, and they're out in the middle of nowhere with no phone. Boring.

Paris Hilton in Christie-sque Thriller (Can Hear You Groan),
By
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
Actually, the DVD cover is not accurate, as if telling she is the heroine of the film. It is not. So if you want to see her, remember that the time alloted to her is not very long, and she looks like strayed into this film by accident (because her role requires little to do, virtually nothing but playing herself). And as to her acting, I do not say anything, for her role (Jo, that's the name) is not a big one. Whether or not she can really do something, I cannot be sure.
Well, but I can say for certain that the film itself is plain awful. The young boys and girls travel all the way to a country house in Scotland, where they celebrate the 21st birthday of one member. But because of the supernatual existence, they start to get killed one after another, while they are all confined in the mansion surrounded by the wilderness. And it is winter. And it starts snowing. And the telephone is dead. And ... You have seen this type of situaion many times before. The awfully contrived story includes one of the silliest ways of breaking the (last) comminication with the outside world -- I mean, the characters really (yes, really) manages to crush the cellphone with ... er ... a bed. (See how it happens, and laugh.) And the photography is so poor that you cannot see clearly the 'terrible' things which the terrified boys are referring to. The film's central character is not played by Paris Hilton; it is by Amelia Warner, who previously appeared in two pretty good films -- 'Quills' and TV's 'Lorna Doone.' Now whatever she had achieved in there should be cancelled out because of the awful acting she gives here. I don't like saying this, but to me at least it was very painful to see her character lacking any emotions that the film requires. Perhaps the film is to be blamed. Perhaps not. See it for yourself. Total failure, and that's all I can say. In a sense, Ms. Hilton was very lucky to be in the film for a shorter time.

SlOW AND BORING,
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
I'm guessing that nine Lives was made prior to Paris Hilton's TV show and sex scandal and was released to take advantage of her recent fame. Even though she gets top billing, she is the first character to get killed in about the first 20 minutes. The story, such that there is of it, concerns 9 friends getting together at a Scottish mansion far off the beaten path. kind of a 20's "Big Chill" gathering. For the first 20 minutes or so they just sit around blah-blahing about their school days. One of them finds a book hidden in a hole in the wall. He begins to read it and then suddenly the pages all read "I have returned!" ohhhh...really spooky! (...) When he gets killed, the ghost jumps to the body of the person who killed him/her and the killing begins again. The story is part ghost story and part slasher film and does neither one all that well. Of course the friends split up to find the killer making them fair game to get killed off easily. It's not particularly scary and certainly not enough gore or inventive ways to kill to satisfy splatter fans. It's really quite dull with all the usual trappings: stuck in an old house.,..story prevents you from leaving, power and phone lines are out, cell phones don't get a signal...yadda yadda... The people are so dull and so uninteresting that you're really hoping they all die. And of course there is NO explanation as to just who Murray is, and why he "returned" to kill off these people. Oh. they throw in some half-hearted explanation but much is still unanswered. Avoid this one, even if it does have Paris Hilton

Honestly.... this is just plain awful,
By Johny Bottom "Insane and lonely guitarist" (Jacksonville, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
I don't even know where to begin with this. If you are a Paris Hilton nut, then you will buy this no matter what I say, so what's the point? Well, let's just say you deserve fair warning. Paris Hilton does look good in this movie, well the first half anyway, she's the first to die. OK, you get to see her in a couple of slinky tight dresses, and a white tank top without a bra. Let's just say for that scene they had the AC turned up. You don't even get to see her die. One scene she's talking to a door, then for a split second you see a hand come through a glass window. Cut to a few scenes later and she's lying face down with a stomach wound. That's it.
The plot is thin to say the least, part Clue, part Evil Dead. A bunch of kids are in a house celebrating a 21st birthday of their friend. One of them discovers an ancient book about some dude who was tortured and had his eyes removed. So now he has 'returned'. He possesses one body at a time as he goes around killing one by one. Finally there is a lone survivor. I won't give it away, but he (or she!) finds out the diabolical spectre's secret and why he (or she) was allowed to live. Lame. If anything else can be said, the character Laura is espescially aggravating. Her inane dialouge was written by a third rate script hack who didn't proofread or revise. This movie sucks on so many levels you'll find yourself giving it away after one viewing (that's if you finish it). Don't watch it late at night after a hard day's work, you'll fall asleep, guarenteed.

Really Bad Movie,
By A Customer
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
This is a very bad movie. Bad acting, bad story, very generic, cheap, no direction, etc... This is quite possibly the worst movie ever. If you are a fan or cheap trills (loud noises and people jumping out) you might like this. This movie lacks any real scares (erieness, fear, story, etc...) Overall, this movie is good to fall asleep too, but otherwise a useless shelfwaster. Paris is in it for 15 minutes and she gives a terrible performance.

Anything having to do with Paris Hilton is doomed to be garbage. The premise of the story is trite and in the end leaves the audience wondering "whaaaaa". The only person not to die is scottish and that's the only reason why he didnt; because he's Scottish. WHAT????? Sick plot, dumb characters overall DULLLLL. How many movies will they make with "a group of friends in a secluded castle" Yes i borrowed the movie which is great compared to paying $20.00 for the DVD and wasting my money and time watching it. YAWWWWWWWWWWN!!!

Sad, sad, sad but true,

What the hell is this??? Why does Paris Hilton have her picture covered on DVD??? She only been played in the movie for a very short time I would say within like 10 to 15 minutes tops and that was it!!! I am very very disappointed with Paris Hilton!!! This movie isnt real I mean I like to watch horror movies that has some real actions and real killers and such ok what I mean is when Paris Hilton lay her front on the bathroom floor and there was NO blood on her back but just in front of her body but we can't see what it looks like... come on lets be real here!!! I am into horror movies and this movie is like "fake horror" movie I have ever seen!!! House Of Wax that Paris Hilton played in it has some REAL action the wax guy threw a long brown wood stick right through to Paris Hilton's head and it looks real but still I know it was just a movie but my point is fake and real horror movies!! But this one isnt real at all!! I want to see some real actions. I know theres something wrong and I see what reall wrong with this movie they are hiding something and there are alot of missing from this movie!! I honestly think Paris Hilton wanted to play in the movie for a very short time just because she really doesnt want to play the whole time movie so she could make ALOT of money or what??? I just dont know but all I know this movie is not right and something is missing and it's not making sense to me at all honestly. And someone took a picture of Paris Hilton on DVD cover??? OMG!!! What the hell is this??? I thought Paris Hilton would be able to play the whole time in the movie but I thought W-R-O-N-G!!! This is not worth it honestly!!! If you want something real get House Of Wax instead of this one!!!

Not even late night cheezy worthy.,
By Jack Storm (Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
Ok, im not even going to comment on the acting, cause hey, Paris Hilton was front and center on the cover, so my expectations were pretty low. But come on, this movie was bad. Lighting was very amateur, with big shadows on the walls that didn't correspond with the lighting. The music was lacking in a big way. For example, they tried using a lot of jump scenes to scare the audience (cause the movie it's self sure couldn't do it). Problem was, they made it overly obvious, and the music was totally off, so the closest you might come is when you role your eyes at the lame attempt. Not only that, the composer was unable to generate any kind of tension at all. And the story, wow. We have a guy who had some med schooling, and can't bandage a cut? They figure out what's going on from a picture book? And a ghost who won't kill someone knocked out? Mighty decent of him. Conversations, characters, plot, boring, boring, boring. Nothing at all even remotely interesting or thought provoking.
Unfortunately this movie isn't even good for laughs. If you really have to see it, at least do yourself a favor and borrow it from someone else who wasted money on it. :)

A lame excuse for a horror movie!,
This review is from: Nine Lives (DVD)
This movie is only worth watching for Paris. It's not scary, it has a recycled plot and crappy dialogue! All of you Paris fans, don't expect much for she is killed off in the first 20 minutes! No nudity on her part either, or any part for that matter! Lame!

This movie is a sleep fest. Not alot of gore here either. It also rips off alot of "the shinning", so it has lack of originality. with Paris' money, you'd think she could find a more higher budget movie than this, after all she rich beyond any of our minds!
