Holly is a 27-year old vegetarian chef. She's in an undefined relationship with Tom, whom she loves. Tom is about to leave for a year long trip to travel the world and Holly doesn't want him to but is unable to stop him from going. The silver lining Tom telling her he loves her the night before he leaves. Unfortunately, Holly finds out she's pregnant after Tom leaves. Fortunately, though she has great friends to help support her.
I liked the realistic view this book had about feeling ambivalent about a surprise pregnancy like Holly's. The book wasn't preachy and wasn't clear cut black and white. While I don't agree with every decision Holly made, I could understand her reasoning in most of the decisions she made. I do thin, however, that the 9 months were covered pretty quickly. This is Sarah Ball's debut book, published in 2002. I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for her other two releases. |
