Ninja Tune's Realms of Bliss,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ninja Cuts Vol. 3: funkungfusion (Audio CD)
It started out with a gathering of tripped-out experimentalists on a single CD called "Funkjazztical Tricknology" and later the 2 CD set "Flexistensialism", both of which produced enchanting streams of sound oozing into a liquid night. Also recommended for any trip-hopping ninja. And now Ninja Tune has grown and so has its entourage of crazed, improvising musicians who stop at nothing to satisfy their craving for the unknown. On this newest, and most dexterous compilation of Ninja Cuts the reign of the pioneer ninjas Coldcut, Dj Food, Funki Porcini, Up, Bustle & Out, The Herbaliser and Luke Vibert (no 9 Lazy 9 or London Funk Allstars) is clearly being threatened (I mean that in a good way) by fresh, creative talent such as for example Fink, Override, The Irresistible Force and Journeyman all of which contributed some brilliant tunes to this compilation. The tune that probably cought my attention first was Luke Viberts "Slipped Disc" w! hich is a great groove-rider. But after repeatedly playing these CD's I think the tunes from The Irresistible Force , Neotropic, J Swinscoe and Override have given me the biggest thrill. However, all of the tunes on the whole compilation give you a cerebral erection except for the rapping of Roots Manuva which I felt just didn't belong with the other jazzy, funky, trippy greats. In conclusion it must be said that there is the known and the unknown and in between is Ninja Tune. To improve your stealth buy these CD's now.

A great overview of the Ninja Tune label,

A must-own if you're a fan of the Ninja Tune sound! You'd be better-off getting the full albums from some of the featured artists (Clifford Gilberto, Mr. Scruff, Roots Manuva). However, for many (ie Up Bustle and Out) this compilation represents the only good songs from their albums - so you save some cash by getting the meat and cutting out the fat. Overall, an excellent sampling of the talent Ninja Tune has to offer.(And no, you're not going to get brainless trance music. If you want to dance, look elsewhere - but if you want quality electronica, Ninja Tune has it in spades.)

With a cd like this, you'll soon forget friends and family. Amon tobins "melody infringement" has got me in the knees, on the floor, lost forever.
