I bought this version of the Ninja because of one of the reviews I read on Amazon. He stated he wasn't going to be doing any baking in his slow cooker so this, much cheaper, version was the perfect one for him.

And I agree. I'm not going to be doing any baking in mine either. It is a great slow cooker. The low heat is low, but not so low that nothing happens. The high is enough higher that things bubble but they certainly do not burn. Kind of a high simmer while the low is just a bit below that.

The other side, the regular cooking side, has low, medium and high heats. The problem with this is that it doesn't heat up fast. And that can be a problem. I've browned ground beef and cooked onions and they do cook. But I have not tried to brown a roast in this pot, which was one of the reasons for buying it in the first place. I think it would work, but I am not sure it gets hot enough. And you would need to wait for the heat to come up before you put the meat in if you want true browning until you were sure it actually was hot.

I also wanted a pot that would not be quite as heavy as a crock pot made out of ceramic. I give it marks on that. I wanted a pot that was easy to clean. The insert has non-stick on all sides and it is extremely easy to get clean. Basically just soapy water, and maybe a bit of soaking if something is really crusty.

The lid has a hole in it, so this is not a totally closed system as some crock pots are. You will lose some of the liquid over time. Frankly, as long as you are aware of that, it should not be a problem.

The warm feature works, but it doesn't really keep things warm for very long. Again, as long as you realize that, it should not be a problem.

Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase.

I've had this for a week now, and have used it prepare every meal this week.

First up was a pulled pork recipe, which was one of the reasons I purchased this Ninja item, since it has the stove top function (I don't need a baking feature) to sear meats with. I turned the "burner" to High, and while it didn't heat up as fast as the stove does, it did sear the 6 pound pork shoulder beautifully. I set the timer to 10 hours overnight, and woke up to perfectly cooked, fall off the bone, pulled pork waiting for me in the warming mode. While there is a steam vent, I found NO loss in moisture from the sauce mix.

Second use was to use it just as a stove to cook chicken fajitas. Again, not as fast to get to high temps as a regular burner, but this enabled me to not have to babysit the stove while the chicken/onions/peppers cooked. End product was moist, with easy clean up.

I love the functionality of this product, it has cut down on the amount of dishes to wash, especially the large sink filling dishes from meal preparation. Also, the insert is incredibly light weight, very easy to remove and wash.

I had heard a lot of stuff on the interwebz about Ninja slow cookers from the "ladies that crock" and was really curious to try a Ninja. So when my trusty old crock died, I bought this slow cooker. Contrary to some of the reviews, my Ninja gets blazin' hot on the stove top setting within about 3 minutes, or about the same amount of time it would take for a pan on my stove to get that hot. This is more than sufficient to sear meat. What I have really liked about it is the ability to "sweat" vegetables before changing over to the slow cooker mode when making soups. It really changes the taste and mimics more the stovetop soup experience (and deeper flavor).

This would make an OUTSTANDING present for a college student living in a dorm (assuming they can have crockpots!) or for anybody who has a small kitchen.

This thing cooks a great dinner without an extra dirty dish from browning the meat.
Next it's already warmed up so the slow cooker starts cooking a lot faster.
Then last after your done turn the bottom burner back on and make gravey!

Bought this "slow cooker" and it is not worth the money. . . . It cooks too hot and has a steam vent in the glass lid which allows all the liquid to cook out. Also, after using it twice the inside of the non-cooking pot is already becoming scratched. I am taking this back.

This is the best cooker I've ever had!! When I make my beef roast I put it on the stovetop side and sear the meat first then switch it over to the slow cooker side and cook it all day. Its non stick surface makes it simple to clean. I recommend this for every cook!
