4.0 out of 5 stars I must be in a good mood today giving thsi a 4, July 2, 2006
This review is from: Ninja vs. Shaolin Guards (DVD)
Now this movie is different than the movie called shaolin vs. ninja. I am reviewing the tai seng version.

Now I sure somebody out there has seen this because it has one of the coolest opening scenes ever. You may or may not know of eagle han (han ying). He did a lot of godfrey ho movies and even fought gordon liu in the finale in the wonderfully horrible "Shaolin Drunken Monk". But when he was under actual choreographers like the great Robert Tai, he is one of the best screen fighters that this world has ever seen! So it starts with eagle jumping on the ground and showign you right away what his legs can do. I won't try to describe what he does to you, but the best way to put it is-HIS LESG CANNOT BE REAL! I mean they are really short and stumpy but I am tellign ou that this guy is more limber than john liu AND hwagn jang lee. he can't kick as high as those guys(cause his legs are a foot and a half long), but I have to say that he is one of the ONLY guys in cinema history that you can tell right away he could whoop your booty in real life. His form is just incredible and I will try not to dwell on the legs. BUT I LOVE LEGWORK!

So the movie is really about as simple as you can get. It starts out really slow but manages to keep pickign up speed throughout the film until the finale comes around and i GAURANTEE you will not be dissapointed in the amount of AWESOMELY choreographed action.

Basically the whole movie you have a group of monks trying to get the golden sutra to tibet. IT MUST GET THERE! Luckily there isn't an army after them btu one BADASS dude who puts a character like "Legalos" to shame. He is a true mountaneer and is EASILY one of my new favorite characters in the movie. So there really is no plot and you have to wait a while, but I gaurantee that you will see ninja's and not the best finale ever, but the best fight in a movie with a TON of good ones.

Also, look for a cameo by robert tai, he has long black hair, a mustache, and is using a one sided spear. Just look for the guy with the biggest nose ever.

If the dvd was widscreened, I would have to giev it a 5. But some parts I hear peopel fighting and can't see anything:) Other than that, picture quality is fine, I just hate it when it is full screened.

3.0 out of 5 stars Now if only the ninjas were interested more in fighting and less in invisibility..., August 9, 2009

If you're looking for ninjas, you'll love the opening credits... and not much else. The movie opens with a Shaolin monk being randomly attacked in the forest by a team of ninjas. Not a bad way for any movie to start! Following this attack, the ninjas disappear. For the rest of the movie.
What can I say? The acting and dialogue through which the viewer must drudge in order to get from fight scene to fight scene is horrible and awkward, but what Kung Fu movie fanatic hasn't paid their dues in this respect? The problem with this movie is that the the dialogue/acting are worse even than one might expect. It gets to the point where it's distracting, you know? Also, I think the male lead... MIGHT have down syndrome... Nothing wrong with that, of course. It's just a little surprising to see in a Kung Fu movie.
Still, the fight scenes themselves are fairly well done. The choreography doesn't quite stand out, but the enemies against which the Shaolin brothers are pitted, including ghost-and-zombie type dealies as well as masked attackers, make for some colorful fights.

In summary:
Don't get too excited about the ninjas, it's a trick. Skip past anything that isn't a fight. Make your own story!

4.0 out of 5 stars raw kung fu action flick!, January 12, 2007
By
This review is from: Ninja vs. Shaolin Guards (DVD)
this movie got so much good raw kung fu action on it plus with great swordfighting. You will only see 2 scenes of ninjas on action so dont be expecting much about more ninja action. The only complaint i have is one of monk brothers who gets real cheesy that gets annoying but other than that if you could pass beyond him everything else fine. one of the highlights of this movie is when the monks fought againts an unknown group of masked warriors that brought a twist of the story....highly recommended for people who likes raw kung fu flicks....
