Based on the Shawnimals designer toy line, Ninjatown is nestled quite literally between a rock and a hard place. A diverse group of fun-loving Ninjas populate the vibrant yet peaceful place known. However, after the eruption of a nearby volcano, Ninjatown is attacked by hordes of sinister enemies lead by Mr. Demon, who, for reasons unknown, is bent on destruction. With powers like the Mighty Wind of Ninja Dropping and Stealth Hugs, you can fight off the evil and secure Ninjatown, one district at a time. Other moves include Fists of Tickle Fury, Candy Smoke Bomb, Heart Star Explosion, and many more. Each Wee Ninja type is said to have its own set of moves.

I have been trying this game out for about a week now and it has exceeded my expectations. It takes a formula that has been proven to be a lot of fun (tower defense) and improved it.

First of all, they made sure that you do not just jump from level to level without purpose. There is a good amount of dialogue before each level which had me laughing out loud on several occasions. There is no way not to love these characters!

As for gameplay, it starts out very simple. You may wonder how it will hold your attention, but no worries there because there is something added to almost every level, either a new kind of ninja that you can use to fight Mr Demon's minions, a new enemy to face, or one of several other surprises.

Difficulty is not an issue for anyone from the casual gamer to the hardcore. Later in the game, as the levels get much harder, the casual gamer may rely on the easy mode (offered after you lose on a level twice) and the hardcore gamer has the challenge of going for an "A" which is the top grade you can get for stopping all of the enemy in their tracks. Although I had many "A" grades early on, I am mostly settling for a "D" now to get through the later levels. This will keep me coming back for more and more even after I beat the game.

Average level is about 10 minutes, good for gaming on the run as well.

As I already own Pixeljunk Monsters for the PS3, another tower defense game, I was not sure how much enjoyment I would get out of this particular version of the genre, but it did not let me down. Highly recommended!

Who doesn't love ninjas - Especially when they are decked out in footy pajamas? Ninjatown is a tower defense strategy game based on Shawnimals plush toys (if you don't know what they are, don't worry I didn't either before the game). Essentially the game involves you trying to defend Ninjatown from the invading Mr. Demon and his forces. You are asked to put up houses where various types of ninjas live each with their own unique abilities. In addition you can build huts that improve your ninjas' attributes (and sometimes other advantages).

The game is fun and addicting. The levels do get increasingly difficult and there are always new huts, ninjas, or enemies being introduced. Plus some of the cut scenes are truly funny. However, there are some minor drawbacks to the game. First, the game doesn't really "evolve" at all. You are essentially doing the same thing in stage 1 as you are in the last. Now don't get me wrong, what you are doing is fun (if you like tower defense types of games), but that's ALL there is here - no character development, no carryover weapons to the next level, no side quests or mini-games. Second, the story line isn't exactly deep. As some of the other reviews stated - young children can keep up with it. Again, not to say this is bad but if you want looking for a Final Fantasy deep story, I would look elsewhere.

Overall, I would definitely suggest buying Ninjatown. It's a perfect DS game for people of all ages.

My six year old son has a new found love of ninjas thanks to Ninja Town. What was a Christmas gift became a surprise when he busted in on me opening my mail...but seeing how happy it makes him totally makes up for the gift surprise blown. He tells me the story line every day. He says it's difficult for him but he is six years old and he just loves a challenge. My teen daughter really enjoys it too. The joy on his face when he plays is enough for me. He says it's really cool.
