5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable grip, questionable storage. April 23, 2011
Verified Purchase
I have no complaints about the grip itself. It offers good support and has totally eliminated the cramping I was getting in my wrists. It's comfortable, lightweight, portable, and very easy to remove from the 3DS unit. It fastens securely and never feels like it's going to fall off. The stand works as it should and I'm glad I have it for when the 3DS gets Netflix. I do have one small complaint though. It seems silly to me that it would have a storage space for an SD card rather than a 3DS game card. Since I only use one SD card it's pretty useless for me. While not a huge inconvenience, it seems like a pretty big oversight, especially considering that I usually carry multiple game cards and an extra storage space would be very convenient. Besides, if I really needed to bring an extra SD card with me, but the only available slot held a 3DS cartridge, wouldn't it be pretty easy to just stick the SD card in there? SD cards are smaller in all three dimensions... Anyways, I am very happy with my purchase (great price, by the way) and I highly suggest it to anybody considering buying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid, just not very comfortable March 28, 2011

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I grabbed this because it was the cheaper of the two available 3DS grip products. Unfortunately, it really isn't what I was hoping for. I like the comfort of the grips of most console controllers from the past decade, but this doesn't replicate it. The lumps on each side are wider, shallower, and at lesser angles than the grips of console controllers. Trying to hold it like a console controller fails and ends up with my hand feeling even more cramped. It is possible to find a looser hold that isn't uncomfortable--but at that point it's not any better than holding the system without the grip, either.

As a stand, it works fine. I'm not sure how often I'll need such a thing, but there it is. System is easy enough to attach and unattach, without feeling like it will fall out when you don't want it to. Doesn't add a lot of weight or bulk. Affordable. The pieces are mostly there for a solid product, so I'm not trashing it too harshly with a low number of stars. I just don't find it comfortable, and without that the rest doesn't matter much.

The manufacturer commented on this review (What's this?)
Hi Joshua,

Thanks for your detailed note.

On typical controllers (e.g. the PS3 Dualshock), we need to access the analog sticks, the d-pad and the XO[]/\ buttons with our thumbs, while also using the index and middle fingers for L1,R1,L2,R2. This leads to slightly titled hand position.

When we were designing the ergonomics of this grip, we wanted to try different options and come up with the most optimal experience. While the slightly-tilted approach of console controllers offer a lot more comfort, it didn't quite fit well around the 3DS shape. Also, when designing this grip we wanted to ensure that all the ports are accessible with the grip on... so the base of the 3DS had to protrude a little bit out of the grip to allow for that access. So, we decided to make it in a way that adds additional support to the palms while also balancing the weight... thus the grips are a bit wider at the sides than console controllers.

3DS users don't have to hold the unit using two fingers in the back of the 3DS base (as they would without the grip), which can add additional strain to the wrists. The grip hopes to mitigate that with this additional support to the hand posture.

Anyway, in short, I have taken serious note of your review and will send your feedback to our design team for future iterations of the product. We're sorry if you have had to face any inconvenience or discomfort.

Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this item! July 10, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I jumped on this only after seeing the curteous response from the company explaining why/how they designed this product. I'm happy to say that it works great... it fits snug with your 3DS and at no time do you feel it will fall or come off. There are no moving parts aside from the kick stand (love that btw). It feels great and natural to hold... making the 3DS much more tolerable to hold for long sessions.

There really isnt anything bad to say about this grip. I suppose if I HAD to come up with one, I'd say that its much easier to snap the 3DS into it than it is to remove it. Its a comfortable snug fit but can feel tricky to get off. This didnt bother me as it means its holding the 3DS properly but could be an issue if you plan to insert and remove your 3DS from it often.

Would definitely recommend this grip!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well April 4, 2011

I got this item to relieve the cramps in my hands from playing too long. Here is a short summary of my impressions:

-3DS pops in and out pretty easily.
-Plastic looks and feels well built.
-I have medium sized, male hands and these grips fit me perfectly.
-Feels similar to the xbox 360 controller so it's very comfortable.

Overall I am satisfied with the product and believe it will help the cramps!

Only suggestion I have is to offer different colors for the inevitable new color releases of the 3DS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Playin' XBOX - Oh wait, It's a 3DS! September 8, 2011

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Love this gadget. The grip essentially makes it feel like you are holding an xbox controller and even looks like one from afar if you are holding one when the screen is closed. Not a squishy grip, but this is more for those whose hands are too large for the cramped buttons of the system. In addition, it gives you something sturdy and firm to hold onto, as opposed to the cheap-feeling design of the 3DS (compared to the classic DS, made much sturdier)

The stand in the back makes it easy to prop up, and is neat to watch those 3D movies on, or when you only need to use the touchpad (settings menus, etc) I don't use the SD card storage slot, seems a little odd to use, but I assume it makes a nice feature for people nevertheless.

Anywho, if you find your hands cramped on the 3DS, this is a nice affordable solution to that problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Big Hands Welcomed This August 21, 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I played Zelda as soon as the battery charged up and played it until it drained without this accesory. By the time I put it down, my wrists were sore. My wife got this accesory for the 3DS and now I wont play without it, my wrists have not been sore again.

The grip is very comfortable; this is like comparing a regular keyboard to an ergonomic one; your wrists will thank you kindly.
It also serves as a stand if you are watching a movie on netflix or nintendo video. One of the best accesories for the 3DS.

The 3DS is a fun system, but its box shape makes it so uncomfortable to use for more than twenty minutes. This product solves that issue and now the 3DS is a pleasure to hold and to use for hours at a time. Glad I bought one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hand Saver! July 28, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
After purchasing my 3DS I quickly began to notice something horribly wrong. My hands began cramping within 10 minutes of playing! I was horrified by how non-ergonomic the system actually is. It may not be so bad for people with smaller hands, but as someone who is accustomed to 360/PS3 controller, I was absolutely horrified! I began feeling stressed because I could not enjoy playing through one of my most beloved games in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. After a little bit of research I came across this product.

This has to be the absolute most sensible accessory for any system, EVER! It shapes to the contours of my hands to a T and just feels like an extension of the system itself. It may make the system more bulky, but it feels absolutely perfect and natural. A nice little extra is the stand that flips out on the backside. This little extra is ingenious! I am now able to lay in bed and prop the system on my chest while playing, lessening hand cramps even further! Also, now that Netflix is available on the 3DS, this little feature makes owning it even more sensible! The only issue I am having is trying to get the 3DS back from my girlfriend!

Simply put, 3DS owners should not be without this item! It is virtually a required purchase and should be bundled with the system from the get go. You can't argue with the price either.
