4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Compact Protector April 7, 2011
Edition:Metal Case|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I wanted something that was basically a protector for the system rather than a full fledged case to retain portability. I liked the notion of a metal case, and this was about the only option. The case is decently sturdy and fits the 3DS quite nicely. The shell is plastic with a metallic plate over the exposed regions. All of the switches and buttons are accessible and the added weight is noticeable, but expected. My only gripe, and it should probably have been assumed, is that the 3DS can't fit into the dock and one of the contacts the dock uses is covered. The power port is exposed so it can still be charged in the case, just not in the dock.

I'm happy with the case and it's what I expected. I wish that the inside plastic had some sort of felt to provide a soft layer between the 3DS shell and the case. The hinge is also a little squeaky, but it may just need to be broken in. All in all though, I'm pretty happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case! April 2, 2011
Edition:Metal Case|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The case was easy to place on my 3DS. It looks stylish and adds only a bit more weight. The only flaw was that it is too bulky to fit on the cradle, so if you're buying this, you won't be able to charge your 3DS with the cradle anymore. Other than that, it does exactly what it says: Protect your system from scratches and fingerprints. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to protect their 3DS.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Buyer with a Positive Ending August 23, 2011
By Shield
Edition:Metal Case|Verified Purchase
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this case about two weeks ago to use with my new Nintendo 3DS system. No more than a few days after putting in on I noticed the rear rubber flap drooping on one side. I removed the 3DS from the CTA case and noticed the hole on the top half that holds the metal hanger in for the rubber flap had cracked and broken. This means the protective rear rubber flap can't hold itself in securely because the metal hanger has nothing to hold on to. The plastic should never have cracked here and although I may have just received a bad case I still believe it's a weak spot in the plastic. While the case may still be somewhat functional I refuse to use it this way.

I am very disappointed in the quality of this case and will most likely never purchase another CTA product nor recommend a CTA product to anyone. There are tons of other manufacturers that offer cases and other 3DS accessories, I suggest you look to them for your gaming needs.

Edit 8-30-11:

I was contacted by CTA customer service and told that they would send me a replacement case. I am very glad to see a company that not only takes pride in itself but also appreciates and values their customers. The new replacement case has arrived and so far is holding up nicely. While I do like the case and it is functional I can only give it three stars due to the fact that it does have a weak spot as mentioned above. Thank you CTA for your great customer service.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Case After I Modified It April 24, 2011
Edition:Metal Case|Verified Purchase
When I pre-ordered this case, the picture was different from the final product, and all I really wanted was a simple aluminum shell to protect my 3DS. When I recieved the case, the notable change was a rubber flap that covers the hinge. This flap was immediately a problem for me. I like to play my 3DS with my index fingers resting atop the system, where the L and R buttons are. The flap, and the plastic nubs that hold the metal rod on the bottom shell were very uncomfortable, and annoying when holding my system. Then I tried to fit the 3DS with aluminum shell into my Official Executive Case, and the only thing stopping it from sliding in was the "grippy" rubber, which deformed and peeled up in the process. I took the aluminum case off, thinking I wouldn't use it again.

About a week later, I realized that the hinge on my 3DS was wobbly, a problem that many 3DS owners are having. After trying a co-workers 3DS with a perfect hinge, I wanted a solution, so I decided to give this aluminum case another try. After inspecting the case, I realized I could modify it to meet my preferences. I will say right now that I DO NOT RECOMMEND MODIFYING THIS CASE, unless you know what you're doing, otherwise it could cause harm to your 3DS.

The rubber flap is secured to both the bottom and top shells by a flexible metal rod. I pulled on the two rods until the whole rubber flap just popped off, and into the trash it went. Left behind were the two plastic nubs that held the metal rod to the bottom shell, and they stuck out to where my fingers constantly bumped into them. I took a very sharp serrated knife and sawed off the two plastic nubs. Then I filed down the plastic until everything was smooth. You can't even tell I modified it, and now I can actually play my 3DS comfortably.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fits great
I wanted to love this but it fell short. It's pretty unnecessary. It bulks up the 3ds and somehow makes it feel significantly heavier. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice case with a small problem
I is a nice case, but I learned that the plastic joints broke a bit easily. A bit of duct tape fixed that easily, so it is alright overall
