5.0 out of 5 stars Low Price, Amazing # of titles available = great fun
Released in 1996, the Nintendo 64 is the oldster of the current generation of game systems. It is extremely impressive, therefore, that it has held up as well as it has. While the other games have had to come out with new consoles, requiring more money and new game purchases in most cases, the N64 has remained quite playable and current.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good system but can't release games fast enough, outdated
I have owned the Nintendo 64 since the very first day, I have had it for almost 4 years. The biggest flaw is that it just doesn't get enough games. Cartriges cost more to make than cds so the playstation and now the dreamcast are easier for the third-party systems to develop for. There are some games on the Nintendo 64, taht are just great, like Goldeneye. Another...

This review is from: Nintendo 64 System - Video Game Console (Video Game)
Released in 1996, the Nintendo 64 is the oldster of the current generation of game systems. It is extremely impressive, therefore, that it has held up as well as it has. While the other games have had to come out with new consoles, requiring more money and new game purchases in most cases, the N64 has remained quite playable and current.

Mario 64, one of the first games available, is still one of the best games available. Other games such as the Zelda series, Pod Racer, and Mario cart are equally as fun and give days if not months of gaming fun. The library of games available for the N64 is simply HUGE.

The Nintendo 64 recently released an Expansion Pack which upgrades the graphics and speed of the machine, allowing games such as Pod Racer to show off even higher class graphics than the base system. Newer games, like Majora's Mask, require the expansion pack to play.

We've owned a N64 for years and find that no matter who comes over to visit, or what the age group of the visitors, there is always a game that is vastly fun to play. There are single-player games, party games, competition games, cooperative games, thinking games, shooting games, and everything in between.

For a household looking for a fun way to spend time together or to relax and have fun, the N64 is definitely worth looking into. It holds up well compared to the other consoles on the market, has a huge library of games available, and offers something for everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo 64 VS. All the other Systems, December 27, 2000

If you are trying to decide which video game system you want to buy, Nintendo 64 is the way to go. N64's library has something for everyone. PSX and Dreamcast tend to focus more on Action, Shooter & Fighting games, whereas Nintendo is a more Family-friendly system.

N64 is about quality not quantity-- it has far more quality games than any other system --Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Kart, Snowboarding 1080, Tony Hawk, Mario Party 1 & 2, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Wave Race 64, Star Wars, and Starfox 64 are a few.

N64's accesories include: Rumble Pak, Expansion Pak for better graphics, Controller Pak for saving data, and a variety of colorful controllers.

I have had N64 for 4 years, and it has never let me down. The qualities to look for in a gaming system are the quality of the Games, and all the other platforms are lacking. And for a console & 2 controllers, you can't go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best system on the planet., August 10, 2000

Nintendo 64 is the best system to date. So what if it doesn't have as many games as the Playstation, who cares? So long as the games that it does have are really awesome (i.e. Zelda is the greatest game ever, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, D.K., Slugfest, and F-Zero X)it'll do fine. Another thing, loading time is a non factor here, Playstation takes to [darn] long, and cartrages are far more durable than CD's, so you can slam your cartrages around and they don't get busted.

In conclusion, N64 is the best system for games, fun, and multiplayer because of it's four controller ports. I suppose that's why they call it "The Fun Machine".

4.0 out of 5 stars NINTENDO 64 vs. OTHER GAMING SYSTEMS: N64 HOLDS ITS OWN, December 7, 2000

I got the Nintendo 64 when it first came out, and since that day I have gotten nothing but gaming pleasure from it. Working at an electronics store, I have experienced Dreamcast, and recently bought a Playstation 2. While the PS2 is the best of the three, for the money you cant go wrong with the N64. Its 64 bit graphics are almost (i mean really, really close) as good as the Dreamcast's 128 bit system, and gameplay is a lot smoother. While I like what PS2 does with the DVD's, I have found that for video game systems, cartridges are more efficient and provide smoother gameplay (I am sad to know that Nintendo, with GameCube, will go to mini-cd type game media). Nintendo is the leader in the gaming industry, and you can't beat the N64 value. While the new PS2 does give a heck of a lot for the money, if you need a system soon (or dont wanna spend a ton of money), Nintendo 64 is the way to go.

The Nintendo 64 has the best array of features I have yet seen. While the games are more expensive than Playstation, they are better. The controller is easier to hold, and easy to use. One Word: GoldenEye. You want a great system and are willing to pay a lot for each game (which you will have to buy again, since cartridges will be exstinct soon)? Get the N64. You wanna cheap out and sacrifice a little of your gaming experience? Get a PLaystation and watch it LOAD!

5.0 out of 5 stars still an excellent system, with excellent games, July 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Nintendo 64 System - Video Game Console (Video Game)
This is an excellent system to get, even though its days are coming to a close. First off, it has good graphics. Its graphics are better than the playstation's (the N64 is a 64-bit system while the playstation is a 32-bit system). It also doesn't take time to load like the playstation does. You can further enhance its graphics buy buying the expansion pak. When it came out, the N64 had the most powerful CPU and had many new technological breakthroughs, and it was the best system of the time. If I were you, I would wait until the gamecube comes out (unless you want an affordable system or don't want to wait).

Second off, it has excellent games, many of which are good for all ages (Goldeneye, Zelda (both), Super Mario 64, Perfect Dark, and many, many more. It has great games in all the different genres, and has more games that are great for the whole family than other genres. It doesn't have as many games as other systems, such as the Playstation or Dreamcast, but Nintendo and other developers for the N64 focus on quality, not quantity....

Also, the N64 has the best controller. This may not seem like it matters much, but it does. Its controller is designed to access any button needed quickly, is designed ergonomically, and is unarguably the most comfortable to use in your hand. Nintendo often has the most innovation in its products (the controller being an example).

I would say N64 is the best and most affordable Gaming system on the market. If your looking for a system get this one. I think that playstation is pretty bad compared to N64. Playstation games last a very short amount of time unlike N64 where the games are cartridges instead of cd's. All of the other systems that are coming out are very expensive. N64 games are great. Nintendo tries to come up with good games unlike playstation they just try to make as many games as they can. Plus N64 is very fast. No loading! The Graphics are very good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one true system., November 12, 2000

This review is from: Nintendo 64 System - Video Game Console (Video Game)
Nintendo 64 is the last real gameing system, (or until Game Cube anyway.) This is the greatest thing in the electronic world since the Game Boy. Playstation, Dreamcast or any of those cruddy, wannabe game systms don't even compare to a 64. If you are planning on purchasing a system you should look no farther than this. N64 runs some of the best games in the video gameing land, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Zelda: Majoras Mask, Donkey Kong 64, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Mario 64, Starfox, Mario Party 1 and 2, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart 64, a cleaner version of Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Gondeneye, Perfect Dark, Pokemon Snap and Stadium if you love Pokemon, Jet Force Gemini, and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer are some of the best ones in my opinion. Nintendo 64 has many atachable accesories, a rumble pack to let you feel the game, an expancion pack for nicer graphics, memory cards to help you save data for long games, and some of the nicest hand fitting controllers. The controllers come in lots and lots of colors: blue, green, red, yellow, gray, atomic purple, black, ice, fire, smoke, jungle, watermelon, a Pokemon one, and a Millinium edition silver one. Buy it if you don't already own it!

the n64 has been on the market for five years. it is still a pretty good console but mostly for younger kids. there is no other 64 bit systym out there but the n64 will soon be outdated by the gamecube. however the n64 still has games with beutifull graphics.

Pros: -capabiliti of great graphics -4 players -great games like perfect dark and goldeneye cons -soon to be outdated -small game library compared to playstation -games cost more because of there cartridge format

The n64 closest competetor is the sony playstation though the playstation is 32 bits because it uses cd's the sound is better and you can see real people in most of the game intros. The reason why i think the n64 is better is because it has some of the best games ever made, super smash bros and goldeneye are a few.

the n64 can also use the expansion pack wich enhances games so you get more levels and better graphics like with zelda majora's mask and perfect dark.

one complaint most older kids have(14+) is that most games are too childish which is true but there are still lots of great games for older kids like goldeneye and perfect dark.

the n64's game library is alot smaller then the playstations (500+). i find the n64 lacks quality sports games on the n64 the playstation comes out with new ones every year.

if you like more sports and you want more mature games get a playstation but the n64'is uneaqualled with the quality of its games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great System, December 4, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Nintendo 64 System - Video Game Console (Video Game)
This system is just too good. ... for a 64-bit system and you can play up to four players! Plus the sytem comes with two controlers. Great Deal. Now some people say cd's are better then cartridges. We'll thats not true because i own Playstation and out of 30 games I have 5 are messed up. And I only play this Playstation twice a year, because it is in my country house. And Playstation has worse graphics and you can't play four players the worst thing is it has to load. a good thing about playstation is the games are worse then Nintendo's but the prices for games are lower. Now the problems with the dreamcast, the system's games aren't the best. Out of 10 games i have maybe 6 are good. Now the problem with the ps2 i'm not going to pay ... to have to buy some kind ok thing that lets you play four players. And it still needs to load! Get n64 best priced a truly a great system.
