This is the adapter that comes with the DS. It is an excellent charger that has a feature that allows the plugs to fold into the rest of it, making it compact and portable. It charges the DS quick and easy, a charge that lasts for up to 8 hours unlike the PSP's 2-3 hour charge. If you lose the plug that comes with the DS, or want another one just in case, this is an excellent thing to have.

So apparently there's an "old" DS and a "new" DS. Go figure. Anyway, this is for the older style (mine is circa 2005), and is a direct replacement for the charger your kid will eventually lose. Looks / smells / works exactly like the original.

I definitely know that when it comes to handheld game systems, Nintendo has remained the king for nearly 25 years. It started with the Nintendo Game & Watch handhelds, then moved on the success of the Game Boy and its variations, and now just a year and a half ago with the Nintendo DS. But, there are just no batteries involved with the system. All it actually takes is a simple AC adapter to charge a special battery designed for the DS. While you can get that with the Nintendo DS, it also is available to buy seperately as a backup. It is very useful if you buy the DS used, or if the adapter that comes with the DS isn't working properly, this is a great backup.

The adapter works fine; I was a little disappointed to find that it wasn't a genuine Nintendo product. Perhaps instead of the ad reading Nintendo DS AC Adapter, it should read "AC Adapter for Nintendo DS by Vortex." The price was good, shipping was reasonable and timely.

The product listed is an adapter for a Nintendo DS (original) or a Game Boy Advance SP. The Nintendo DS Lite and later versions use a different adapter. The original products used an adapter with a part number of NTR-002.

The problem is that Nintendo no longer makes that adapter, and it's not clear that they were ever the manufacturer. They may have supplied several different versions, and the one I got was manufactured by Mitsumi.

Amazon's rules require vendors to sell the exact item pictured, and the picture appears to be the Mitsumi that was included with at least some of the games. The one I received did not have the Nintendo logo on the rear, as some of them did, but it's unlikely that any new ones would.

At the time I wrote this, the plurality of reviews were one star. However, they were written by people who never got the correct adapter, either because one of many sellers sent the wrong one, or because they bought the wrong one without realizing that different models of DS use different adapters. Thus the negative reviews (as of this writing) have nothing to do with the correct adapter that you should expect. And with about 15 different sellers (changing constantly) there's no reason to believe that any of that has to do with what you would get from an honest seller.

The adapter I received has a part number of USG-002 on it (which is the correct number for the DS Lite) but has the correct connector for the original DS. Aside from the connector, both adapters are otherwise similar. Both are DC5.2V, and the original was 320mA. The USG version is 500mA, meaning it will work fine as long as it has the correct connector.

The bottom line is that in theory you should be getting an NTR-002, but they are no longer made. And a USG-002 with the correct plug for the original DS is essentially the same thing as an NTR-002. So if you get the item pictured, you are getting essentially the same charger (made by the same company) as the one that came with your DS. If you are not getting that item, then you are dealing with a seller who is breaking the rules and you are entitled to a full refund, including shipping.

Given that Nintendo was including what was essentially a generic adapter made by a third party, getting the same adapter should give you a reliable one. But that same adapter, as long as it's the correct one, is not much different from those in the one dollar range. When you factor in shipping costs, and the assurance that Amazon guarantees you will get the correct one, this one is still likely to be your best bet.

I have the original Nintendo DS and they don't sell any accessories for this in stores. Thanks Amazon.com! You are a lifesaver!! Now I can play Harvest Moon all day long instead of studying for finals.

i purchased a game that came wothout a charger so was very glad to be able to get one at such a reasonable price...it has been a fantabulous purchase...thank you for making it available

Its the adapter for the GBA. It works like it should and its easy to transport around...

It was just what I needed to keep my DS charged. I had lost my other adapter, and the price on this one was just right.
