2.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but there are better alternatives, January 10, 2006

As a veteran pda user, I'm no stranger to various stylii and scratched screen paranoia, so I thought I'd chip in my 2 cents on this item.

A fingertip stylus can be useful at times, though others don't seem to realize this is a niche product. This is not your daily use stylus, but instead would be for use with games which normally use the face buttons, once and a while requiring you to touch the screen. This includes games like Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Games like Tony Hawk would probably not work, as the touching is too quick and would require you to use this stylus on your thumb - making it hard to hit the face buttons.

Never the less, Intec could have done better with this item. The "claw" design is a questionable choice, leaving it harder to get a comfy fit and keep it on. This also eliminates the ability to wear it backwards for storage like "reverse ring clip" designs.

In addition, many molded plastic stylii like this tend to have ridges at the tip, due to casting. These can easily scratch your screen unless you want to take the time to sand them down gradually, finishing with 600 grit wet or finer sand paper.

While this is a nice attempt, it is flawed in many ways. If you'd like a fingertip stylus I suggest trying an alternative made for pda's - there are many out there. While the DS is young, pda stylii have been around for years, so there are lots of choices made for people worried about $600+ screens -- the DS screen should be safe with any high-quality pda stylus.

Check out the "True Tip" stylus, or the Concept Kitchen sterling silver fingertip stylus for more comfortable, well designed, and safe alternatives.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it, January 18, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

I like this claw thinggy. I was playing Metroid Prime demo and then James bond. It is a lot better than the "thumb strap". The thumb strap is attached to the right side of the Nintendo DS but I have to reach it all the way around the left and Inbetween the joint of the DS. the way that the Thumb Strap sits in the middle of my thumb means that I really have to strech my thumb across the screen to get to the right side. Plus if i need to do something and put my DS down. I have to take the Tumb strap off and then put it back on and make sure it is possitioned correctly.

This little claw thing fixed all that. It made aiming and shooting even easier with these 2 games than ever before. my thumb was completely mobile and because the claw is at the end of the tip instead of the middle of the thumb meant that I didn't have to really strech my finger or try and hyperextend my thumb in order to aim in these games. It is far superior to the Thumb strap in every way.

It isn't so great for games that need the stlylus though. Meteos suffered because it was hard to see the screen. Animal Crossing it was also hard to use the painting program and the typing menu.

This is definitly meant for FPS (first person shooters). While there are very few FPS for Nintendo DS right now. This little acessory is also going to be the recomended accessory when Metroid Prime Hunters finaly ships in just a few months.

These finger things are really bad. You can't keep them on your fingers they keep slipping off and they give you horrid calluses.
