Pre-ordered this item as soon as it became available on amazon.com and it was going to be a big surprise for my 5 yr old as she was hoping for a DS, a big fan of Mario Bros and her favorite color is red. It just couldn't get any better than this bundle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revisting The DS Lite, November 29, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Red Mario with New Super Mario Bros. (Video Game)
Since Nintendo orignally came out with the Nintendo DS back in 2004, it fully brought in a whole new way we play video games on the go. Since then, gamers everywhere have been rejoyced with with video games that have been now recognized as classics like Super Mario 64 DS, the addictive puzzle game Meteos, and the addictive mental challenge of Brain Age. But, there have been also a lot of great bundle packs that also have been made like back in 2005, when the original DS was made with the fast and furiousness of Mario Kart DS. But that also could in 2006 when Nintendo remade the DS, into the popular DS Lite, which also delivers top notch gameplay, and the ability to play against other gamers online. Now, just in time for the holidays, a pair of special Nintendo DS Lite bundle packs have been made to make your favorite gamer happy on the go.

The new Nintendo DS Lite in a limited edition Red is a sleek and conveint system that is specially designed for hard core Nintendo fans everywhere of their favorite plumber, Mario, with the classic M cap design on the DS Lite. The bundle pack also includes the widely-popular and addictive New Super Mario Brothers which was released back in 2006. The game is one of the most challenging and welcomed games released for the DS library, and returns with Mario going back to his 2-D side-scrolling roots, as he goes all out trying to rescue Peach a.k.a. Princess Toadstool from the clutches of Bowser and Bowser Jr. The game is not just fun and entertaining, but also includes new challenges and power-ups that are addictive including the mega-mushroom which can turn Mario into a giant, and the specialy turtle shell, which can make mario turn move like the koopa troopas he used to throw to knock his foes out cold. The game is fun and is beautiful in not just the graphics, but the gameplay as well.

While die hard Nintendo DS gamers are anxiously awaiting the upcoming release of the new Nintendo DSI which will be coming out sometime in 2009, they'll just have to do with the Nintendo DS Lite in the meantime. Also at around $150, the Nintendo DS Lite with New Super Mario Brothers is a great and entertaining game and video game system that will bring fun and wonderful joy hours on end for anyone who is looking for a new video game system for their favorite gamer, or anyone who is a hard core Nintendo fan.

This is one of the best systems my boys absolutely love! This also has the Mario logo in front plus the game at an amazing price! Great deal! Way to go Amazon! I didn't have to go out on Black Friday and freeze to get this at an even lower price!

5.0 out of 5 stars a good little system, November 28, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Red Mario with New Super Mario Bros. (Video Game)
Being a gamer for 20 years, I've seen my share fair of systems come and go. Although I was skeptical of the DS at first, seeing it as a gimmicky handheld with nothing new to offer (aside from that stylus functionality), I grew quite fond of it after my friend's constant nagging to get me to try it.

Games like Brain Age give you something different, but the best part for me is the abundance of awesome 2D games. The Castlevanias, Contra 4, Sonic Rush, Megaman ZX, and more are part of the grand renaissance of old school games (along with all the offerings on Xbox Live Arcade and the other consoles).

Of course, if you're looking for some quirky games taking advantage of the stylus and whatnot, they got you covered, too. WiFi multiplayer and Game Boy Advance backwards compatability are just icing on the cake.

I put off buying it for awhile, since I'm pretty happy with my PSP, but I couldn't pass up this bundle. One, it comes with New Super Mario Bros., an excellent side scroller that you can play again and again (though it's no Super Mario World, in my opinion). Two, Amazon sold it at a lower price than certain retailers, with Free shipping and no tax, and it shipped out a few hours after I bought it! So no Black Friday madness for me (this came out on the 11/28/08, the day after Thanksgiving...)

And the Mario design doesn't hurt things at all ; )

So overall, good system, even better bundle.

Pre-ordered this item as soon as it became available on amazon.com and it was going to be a big surprise for my 5 yr old as she was hoping for a DS, a big fan of Mario Bros and her favorite color is red. It just couldn't get any better than this bundle.

Today we all had a major disappointment. The touch screen simply didn't work. In fact, I believe it was not even a touch screen that was installed in that spot. I don't expect great quality or workmanship for something so relatively inexpensive and slapped together in China but I do expect some semblance of quality control to power on the device and check of basic functionality. Clearly no one bothered with this unit.

As a result a little girl's Christmas wish was shattered and I have to go hunt down a new one. This is simply unacceptable. The only bright spot is that Amazon is so good with returns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mobile gaming at its best!, December 3, 2008

This review is from: Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Red Mario with New Super Mario Bros. (Video Game)
This is my first Nintendo console though I own and have been playing with Sony's Playstations (incl. the PS3 and PSP) and Microsoft's Xbox 360 for a long while.

Needless to say, Nintendo's DS Lite is a well-known handheld dual-screen gaming device and arguably, the sole rival to Sony's PSP. Unlike the PSP which is known for its powerful graphics capabilities, the DS Lite remains more reserved. Yet, the plethora of games for the DS Lite is nothing short of impressive. In addition to being able to play its own games (for which there are plenty), the DS Lite is also able to play the games of its earlier predecessor, Nintendo's Game Boy Advance.

Moving on to this special limited edition bundle, I am very happy with the entire package. I found the DS Lite to be of great quality though some may find that it is a little too red for their liking. For those who feel this way, the alternative bundle (Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Ice Blue with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! And Carrying Case Bundle) may be more pleasing for their eyes :) However, I like the bright red color as it stands out in the crowd and represents Mario well (it's the color of his cap and shirt). Together with the "M" logo emblazoned on the cover, this DS Lite definitely stands out.

The bundled game New Super Mario Bros. is also a lot of fun, especially for those of you retro-gamers who fell in love with Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It's a classic side-scrolling platform game where you play the role of Mario who has to rescue Princess Peach. In the course of the game, Mario will run, jump, grow in size, shrink in size and tackle a host of other entertaining puzzles to be with his one true love. While the game is not new (it was released in 2006), it is still in demand today and certainly deserves the 95% rating from IGN.

In terms of value, this bundle is heaven sent, especially if you were fortunate enough to pick it up during Amazon's Black Friday sale (for $134.95). Even if weren't, it's still a great deal at this price ($149.99), bearing in mind that it seems to go for much higher on eBay.

In summary:

Pros
+ The DS Lite is a great handheld gaming device with a seemingly endless supply of games (incl. Game Boy Advance games).
+ The color stands out, which would definitely appeal to retro gamers who are fans of Mario.
+ Comes bundled with New Super Mario Bros. which is an awesome game in its own right even though it is not new.
+ Superb value, given that this is a limited edition bundle and it is selling for higher on eBay.

Cons
- May be a little too red for some.
- The New Super Mario Bros game isn't a new game and fans are likely to be all too familiar with the gameplay.

Overall
Simply a superb buy for those who haven't experienced the wonders of the DS Lite and also for hardcore fans of Mario. If you haven't got a DS Lite (or are just itching for another), I would definitely pick this one up!

This was one of the best Christmas gifts I could have purchased. My daughters both got DS packages in 2009 and still play them today. The games stand up to quite a lot of play and punishment. I even dropped one on a hardwood floor and it was fine!

This was exactly as expected- works well so far. One thing- it was packaged very haphazzardly. Would have gotten 5 stars but I felt the packaging was lacking. It was all in a plastic bag- gallon sz. It was loose in that bag and bumped around a lot in transit. I just wish that it would have been packed more securely. I honestly cannot tell if the scratches are from the ride or before..
Would do business again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game But Deceiving Ad, December 7, 2009

This review is from: Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Red Mario with New Super Mario Bros. (Video Game)
My grandson loves the Super Mario DS Lite but I am still unhappy about the fact that the Title Ad still says Nintendo DS Lite Limited Edition Red Marion "with New Super Mario Bros" and it did "not" come with the New Super Mario Bros game. This to me was a very deceiving ad and will never buy from this seller again. I wrote back to the seller and they pointed out to me in a certain line that it would "not" be included, evdidently I did not read that line. I still think they should have made good on it but they didn't. Anyway, that's my gripe. Thanks for listening.

I had fully planned on ordering from another retailer online this morning (Black Friday), but when I hopped online at 4am their website was DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE! How convenient! But it all works out because Amazon price is CHEAPER (by over $5) AND it ships free AND no sales tax. I ordered one Mario Bundle and One Brain Age Bundle. Thank you Amazon, Santa is VERY happy!
