4.0 out of 5 stars Cool . . . almost radical, but not quite.
The pokemon Pikachu virtual pet is a cute idea and a fun piece of popular culture but the designers didn't really take it to fruition. The pokemon Pikachu virtual pet is a cute idea and a fun piece of popular culture but the designers didn't really take it to fruition. I appreciated the idea of a toy that interacts with the user based on physical movement but the level of interaction is lacking and Pikachu's growth was not especially fun to watch. The ending was particularly disappointing. Once he reaches 1 million steps, he ceases to function and you must reset him. No fanfare, no fireworks, just some pixelated text. All in all, the pokemon pikachu virtual pet represents an exciting new horizon in interactive children's toys and a fun pop-culture item but the technology and design just aren't quite there yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is SOOOO much better than your average virtual pet!!!, February 3, 2002

This virtual pet is sooo much fun. I bought mine about a year ago and though it was kind of expensive... it was really worth it. You don't have the constant hassle of feeding it. All you have to do is wear it on your belt and walk around. For every 5 steps you take you get 1 watt. You give these watts to Pikachu to make him happy. And it is really durable. I had mine for a long time then forgot about it and I just recently turned it on and it still works. You get to see Pikachu do all these cute things like playing in the sand, eating, sleeping, taking bubble baths ect. The best thing about this virtual pet is that after a while it grows up and starts doing new stuff like going to school. I think that this pet was worth the money and is really easy to take care of.

4.0 out of 5 stars This toy is NOT a tamogatchi!, November 18, 1999

This toy is not very fun. All you do is walk pikachu for watts (Poke treats), Gamble for watts, and give pikachu watts. This toy is NOT reccomended. The only good thing about it is the fun little things pikachu dose for you (Eats a lolliepop for instence)

Pikachu makes a great workout buddy! This is perfect for ALL ages, as it is very durable, fun, and not too childish. Very cute, however I am getting the Pikachu 2 because it can sing songs you teach it.

I bought Pockemon Pikachu about two years ago and I found it fun. Later on I put it in a cupboard and forgot about it, then yesterday (two yaers later) I found it and it still works perfectly. It is so durable that I took it to the shops with me and I barely noticed I had it. There's lots to do with it like gambling with the watts, giving presents to Pikachu and an alarm clock and that is just some of them. I was amazed because I usually hate Pokemon but I really enjoy playing with Pokemon Pikachu. Over all I recommend this to any one.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's really a pedometer, March 13, 2002
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I purchased a few of these...to use in my classes as pedometers. They are more fun than the pedometers they are selling for physical education class. The kids wear them in class to see how many steps they have taken and then they record the results after class. Several of the students have gotten them as gifts at home and wear them for physical education class. I put "leashes" on the units that clip to the kids clothes so they don't crash to the ground when they slip off their clothes.

It's pretty good. You don't have to feed it. The only purpose is to turn it on. If you don't turn it on for awhile Pikachu gets mad at you and runs away. You have to shake it to get him back. The mini game is a slot machine get three 7s in a row and get 500 watts. The animation is really cute.
