Great for tennis!!!!, April 13, 2009

So much fun I couldn't quit until a blister formed... I'm an injured (back)avid (more like formerly rabid?) tennis player and wanted to get a racquet with my Wii Tennis so that when or if I get back on the court I might not be so rusty. Without the racquet I could tell I was forming some bad swatting habits. With this racquet you can work on proper body positioning especially with volley's and having the racket to hold with both hands gives you a better tennis feel (back hands, ready position, etc). The grip is too big for small hands - but not too terribly big. You just have to remember to loosen your grip when your resting to keep the wee/wii thumb blister manageable.
The reason I did not give this a 5 star rating is because it does have down sides:
1) to install it you had to remove the wrist band (I can't think of the name) from your Wii remote. Then creatively firgure out how to get it back on thru the racquet. And once that is done you can NOT use the numchuck with the remote (i.e. solution buy or use a different remote!). I've successfully threaded it back on twice now - the trick is to loop it over the plastic part to get it back out which is the only way to finish the half hitch needed to have the band secured on the remote & handle (& yes I know that sounds confusing). I'll warn you it was a mind teaser and I almost gave up putting the strap back on. This is the same strap issue same no matter which accessory you have on the handle. Once the handle is put together (and strap in place) you slide the racquet or bat, etc onto it. It just clicks on so I can't really tell how well that will hold up. I swing the racquet fast so I'm hoping it won't go flying! Id' feel better if there was a screw holding it on as well.
2) The other issues is that the head of the racquet blocks transission of the remote during SET UP ONLY. But after you've selected 3 out of 5 games, etc - it works fine. ie the A & B buttons don't work so the solution is to you partially pop the remote out of the handle and try not to touch the B button which quits your game. When it is time to serve you just pop it back into the handle. And yes - the handle does have leather on it but nothing like a real tennis racquet. Again having to pop it out to select menu items is easily to work around but a definate big design flaw.
In summary - it really does make playing Wii tennis more fun and VERY realistic!!! Lastly - this will not work with the Tennis game with Federrer/Roddick - that requires a numchuck - AND BTW is not worth buying (I'd rate that a 0 minus!). This accessory with Wii Sport's tennis game is all you need to be a first class 10isbum. Enjoy!

This was supposed to be a Christmas/Hanukah present for our sons, but I opened it, set up the Wii, and tried it out. WHAT A BLAST! We had a great time (for the 45 minutes between when we put the kids to bed and when we were so exhausted that we needed to turn in, too). For those of you who have not succumbed to the Wii craze, you will truly appreciate these accessories.

I bought this for my children to use when they are playing the sports games. They use them sometimes, but they do not want to go through the trouble to attach them to the WII remotes.
