After initial skepticism that 480p and a cable would really make much difference, I am now a true believer. I play the Wii on my 47" Vizio (1080p capable) and the clarity difference w/ the component cable is truly amazing. My assumption is that it may not make any difference on a tube TV displaying at 480i, but if you have an HDTV, I highly recommend the Wii component cable. Once installed, don't forget to set your Wii to display at 480p...

This is a high-quality product must-have Wii product at a low price (3rd party vendor).
Note this is the heavy-duty HD cable version (vs. the slim one). Got this at an excellent price and it does the job. Cable works wonders on my friend's 52" widescreen Samsung. On my Sony 36" tube XBR (6 years old), which is 480P HD-ready, there's some improvement but not huge. Overall, I'm satisfied and can't wait till I upgrade my TV. Note the Wii is only 480P so don't expect those jagged/boxy edges to fall off. Definitely worth it if you have a good HD TV set and can spare the component inputs (vs. coaxial). *Note some people forget to adjust the Wii settings to output 480P (ETV/Enhanced = "HD, 480P) and widescreen/regular, which may explain why they don't see ANY improvement vs. regular coaxial. You can't just plug it in and expect the Wii settings to auto-detect and change! Meanwhile, some expect a 'true HD' miracle despite the Wii systems' limitations.

For Wii & HDTV Owners, a Must Have!,

I realized about 1 week into using the Wii on my HDTV that something was off. The graphics were blurry and there was Wiimote lag. After some contemplation, I reasoned that both issues were related to the signal being sent to the TV. The blurry graphics? 480i. The delay in response? The HDTV converting the ancient 480i signal into 480p. You see, the Wii ships with last generation RCA connectors (Red, Yellow & White). These work fine on a Standard TV, the 480i signal is its bread and butter. To upgrade to an HDTV-friendly signal you need component cables.
Enter this product: $4 + S&H ($10 total)on Amazon for a cable that costs $25 in the stores. It does exactly what the more expensive product does: sends a 480p signal to your HDTV from the Wii. The difference is rather astounding and immediately noticeable. Wii controller movement is sensed almost instantly, and the graphics are clearer and crisper. These cables unlock the full power of the Wii on your HDTV. For under $10 you can't go wrong.

Could be a redundant purchase,

Soon after getting my Wii, started thinking about replacing the factory cable with the high resolution version. On my 60" Sony, the picture was terrible with my original setup. About a month later I replaced my receiver with a newer version that does up-scaling of any source to HDMI 1080p. The improvement in the picture was amazing. I then wondered how much better it could get.
So I purchased the High Resolution component cable. There is some minor improvement, but nothing really to write home about. From 8 feet away the picture looks just as sharp as the factory cable with the up-scaling receiver. Just for kicks, I hooked it all up using my original receiver and I was amazed at how much better the picture was than with the factory cable. Basically, if your receiver can perform up-scaling, you won't find much use for the High Resolution Wii component cable. If you don't use a receiver or have an older one, then this is the product for you.

I paid [...] for this HD cable, and for this price, and free shipping, it is just fine. I can tell some difference. Bought it mostly for watching Netflix, and I can tell it has helped. I haven't tried a game yet, but can tell-even on the main Wii Menu screen-that resolution is better.
Yes, you must remember to change the setting in the Wii settings-Screen resolution to the EDTV, and the cables were confusing to hook up in the Component area as well. I did not receive directions with the cables, and did not find any here (when I received the cable), so here are some directions. To install: The two audio cables-red and white-have the colors on the inner area, with gray on either end. The video cables-red, green, blue-have the colors on the outer part, with the gray in the middle. Hook these up in the attachments that say Component, set your TV Input to Component-not HDMI or Video, and turn the Wii on, change the resolution as stated above, and you should be set! Easy!

Well, for under $10, Composite sounds nice, and it seems nice..(since once you have HDTV, you want everything HD)
but is it just me or when the screen is blank, it shows lots of noise on TV..When game screen's on, overall, i'm satisfied, but either when it's loading or pre-game screen, it shows lots of 'dust-looking' noise on TV. Other than that..it's all good.

I needed additional cables because the 3-tip cables that came with my Wii used the same connector on my tv as my DVD player. It was a pain to keep unplugging them & switching back & forth. Plus my tv has HD connections - why not use them. I was afraid of the no-name generic, but for under $5, I'd take a shot. It works - 'nuf said.

4 bucks seemed like a reasonable gamble instead of the $30+ Nintendo one and it did pay off. Expect no frills, the cable comes in a plastic bag with a twist tie around it and it is ~4' long. Also note that you won't be able to peel the audio portion away, so you'll need a set of red/white extension cables if you run your Wii through your surround sound. Any complaints on these forums are people complaining that a cable under 5 dollars doesn't spin straw into gold, as the upgrade is only from 480i to 480p. This puppy does NOT make the Wii a beefier processor with a better graphics card. It does NOT make the crappy games you have better. It DOES sharpen up the menus for larger HD TVs. While I purchased this cable specifically for Monster Hunter Tri on my 52" rear projection Hitachi, it's time to really shine on the Netflix capabilities. Again, this will not suddenly make something streaming wireless look like HBO HD, but it definitely gets it out of grainy SD territory.
PS: The latest Wii software seems smart enough to auto select 480i or 480p, but since I move the Wii between an HD and an SD tv, I check every time anyway (I'm right there in the menus to change 4:3 to 16:9 anyway)

For less than $5 compared to $39.99 for OEM from Nintendo, you can't go wrong.
The look of this cable may not be high end, but it gets the job done. A significant improvement in the WiiSports and WiiSports Resort graphics. My main reason for buying this component cable is to improve Netflix Streaming Video quality, and it does that job without any problems or issues.

I had no idea this cable for the Wii existed until I saw a similar one on a lightning deal. We use our Wii to stream Netflix, and it has really improved the picture quality. It's still not HD quality, but it's much better than it was. Well worth the $5 I paid.
