5.0 out of 5 stars The great debate...does the Wii really overheat?
From what I see by the other reviewers, they all tend to be pleased with the overall production of this Wii intercooler by Nyko. And since I now own one myself I can safely join the crowd in echoing their praises. But most people wonder if the Wii truely ever overheats making this purchase viable. Well I have owned a Nintendo Wii for three months and I am one of the many...

3.0 out of 5 stars is it necessary? yes and no
Pros: obviously your system runs a lot cooler and therefore more efficiently(i've heard tell of people in hot climates with no AC having the extremely rare overheating issue), it powers on/off automatically, doesn't take up your usb ports, easy install, it's cheap (especially when compared to coolers for the other next gen consoles)

Cons: it stays on at all...

From what I see by the other reviewers, they all tend to be pleased with the overall production of this Wii intercooler by Nyko. And since I now own one myself I can safely join the crowd in echoing their praises. But most people wonder if the Wii truely ever overheats making this purchase viable. Well I have owned a Nintendo Wii for three months and I am one of the many folks that like to leave the Wii in standby so as to be connected to the internet 24 hours a day. After the second month I began to notice micro specks streaking across the Wii menus and in Wii games that I would play. Two weeks later the streaks had gotten worse. In case you still don't understand me, these "streaks" appear as black pixelated dots that pepper the entire screen, hendering your ability to see everything like you should. I wound up having to send my Wii back to Nintendo for repairs while hopping the net to find the source of my problems. Turns out the Network card (the card installed in the system responsible for communicating with the internet) was collecting heat from leaving it in standby so often. This heat index suffocated my GPU (graphics processing unit) and literally fried it! Turns out that hundreds of people on the Nintendo.com tech forums experienced the same issues. And it took Nintendo almost another month to get my Wii fixed and shipped back to me! Listen, The Nintendo Wii DOES overheat and there is no debating that. Moreso for those of you whom like to use the Wii connect 24 service. Now I like to set my console up on the vertical stand, and before owning this intercooler unit I had taken notice of how warm the bottom half of the Wii got. With it installed, the heat is drastically cut down. In terms of weather or not you should buy this particular cooler...well I believe it is one of the cheaper options out there among the third party cooler systems to purchase. It's noisy when your in standby but it gets the job done no problem. If you own a Nintendo Wii and utilize the Wii connect 24 service, I highly recommend this grab. Don't chance your network adapter overheating and frying your GPU like mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works very well even if your WII internal fan is broken, May 2, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
I purchased this product because my Wii Internal fan had ceased to function and the Wii would automatically shut off after about an hour of play in this state. With this fan that is never again a problem and I can leave the Wii on for as long as I want. It's pretty funny that half these reviews say the fan is loud and half say it's quiet: to perhaps settle the issue I'll say it's not EXTREMELY loud like a buzzing prop plane to the point that you are going to hear it above your video game music, but it is considerably louder than the standard Wii fan and will produce a notable ambient hum that will punch through especially on parts of hte game with no sound. Nothing too major, but definately noticeably louder than the regular Wii fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment, June 8, 2008

I have owned my Wii for almost a year now, and have had it repaired twice due to heat related damage. This time I invested a few bucks into this cooler, and have not had any further problems with the console overheating. Yes, the fan is a bit loud, but if you do not leave the WiiConnect 24 feature on standby it's not an issue. During game play I can hardly hear the fan. I would rather spend a few bucks on a loud cooling fan and save my the rest of my money for games, instead of repairs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cooler Wii, November 29, 2007
By

This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
Pro: 1. Your system will run much cooler during game play and when the system is in stand-by. (My Wii system would run fairly warm when I put it on stand-by but with this plugged in the system is cool)
2. It's very easy to install and you do not use any of the USB outlets to use this product since it plugs in directly into the power supply.

Con: 1. The fan is a bit loud and if you do not own a TV entertainment stand, be prepared to hear this fan (though you won't hear it that much at all during game play, but on stand by you will hear). I don't usually turn my system on stand-by to conserve electricity so I give it a 4, though if I did put it on stand-by I would lower it to a 3

Conclusion: If you are worried that your Wii system will overheat then by all means this product is a great add-on (price is just right) as it will cool your system in all modes (during game play and stand-by). If you do not care about your system overheating then you will not need this at all since the Wii is not suspectible to overheating as other systems such as XBOX 360 or PS3.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loud...Necessary for certain conditions., September 21, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
The other reviewers were stating how the product is loud. The wii is basically silent. With this little fan attached, it sounds like a computer. Now... this may be a deal breaker for some of you... but know this.

If you are a fan of Legal homebrew then this fan is necessary , because when Homebrew Apps run...majority of them run in standby mode where the fan does not spin. So you need this item to keep from damaging your Wii.

For the individuals who griped about the fan even running when the Wii is in standby mode... you just have to turn off the "Standby ON" function... so that the wii never has the orange light on...only the RED when off and the Green when on.

NOTE: I DO NOT SUPPORT OR CONDONE ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS OR MODIFICATIONS OF THE WII

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, but a little noisy., March 26, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
The Nyko Wii Intercooler gets the job done of keeping your Wii running cooler, with just a slight drawback. The unit is pretty noisy, even when playing games. If you use WiConnect24 and have it setup to be connected while in standby mode, the Intercooler will remain running all the time, so be aware of this. Other than the noise, the product works just as advertised!

3.0 out of 5 stars is it necessary? yes and no, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
Pros: obviously your system runs a lot cooler and therefore more efficiently(i've heard tell of people in hot climates with no AC having the extremely rare overheating issue), it powers on/off automatically, doesn't take up your usb ports, easy install, it's cheap (especially when compared to coolers for the other next gen consoles)

Cons: it stays on at all times if you have WiiConnect24 on (which leads to our next issue), it's loud (not REALLY loud, but think having a very tiny jet land in your entertainment center),

Conclusion: there's a big debate over whether this is a justifiable purchase. all i can say is it works very well at keeping your console cool. the wii doesn't have the overheating issues that the other next gen consoles have, but for the paranoid among us, or those who must rid yourselves of the money smoldering in your pocket, it's a good buy. the only real drawback is the noise this thing makes. it's not noticable during gameplay, but it's grating when you're trying to watch tv or a movie. easy solution: turn off WiiConnect24. BUT that leads to the next issue: if you turn off WiiConnect24, you can't use the News or Weather Channels.

buy it if you want, it does it's job very well. i just hope you like compromise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good results for a good price, October 5, 2008

I ordered this accessory online to boost another purchase over $25 (to get the free shipping). I liked that it was cheap and that the other reviews were good. Be warned, this product looks extremely dinky when it arrives, as it only covers the fan opening in the back of the Wii (maybe 2" x 2"). However, it is extremely effective in keeping it cool, and should add life to your system. Definitely worth the purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 15 bucks I've spent this year., July 31, 2008
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
Before buying this fan, my Wii would overheat and shut down after an hour of play. Very frustrating! The kids were nagging me to send it in for repair but I dreaded the process and the expense. Then I stumbled upon this little gadget and it's the best $15 I've spent all year. The Wii hasn't overheated once since we got the fan, and it's on for 6 or 7 hours at a time. All you have to do is plug it into the back of the Wii and you're done. Don't listen to the complaints of it being too loud. The only time we notice the noise is when the house is completely quiet, and even then, it's just a whirring/humming noise. During game play you can't hear it at all. I highly recommend this to anyone who has overheating problems with their Wii.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo Wii Intercooler, January 20, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Intercooler (Video Game)
Can't tell any difference in Wii system performance with the intercooler installed, but maybe that's because it's working. System runs great and never acts sluggish. Fan is rather quiet and doesn't interfere with gameplay. Neat design where it plugs in between the power supply and the Wii system. Many other system coolers take up a USB port whereas this one does not.
