5.0 out of 5 stars Truly amazing March 29, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I decided to get this as my first game for the 3DS and it does not disappoint! I can't believe how clear the graphics are and how the puppies and cats pop out at you. I started with a pug because I have one in real life, and I am dazzled by the similarities of this virtual pug to my real pug. Nintendo did a wonderful job on the mannerisms and poses of the dogs. I can't wait to unlock more breeds and find more presents while I take my Nintendog for a walk. Highly recommend this game, you will not be let down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game! March 28, 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I just got my 3DS yesterday on release day. I bought 5 of the release games with it, one of them being this game. I have spent the most time playing this adorable game! The puppies are so realistic even if you don't have your 3D turned on! I have has so much fun teaching my new Shiba tricks, shopping for an awesome pink collar and food, entering competitions, etc.! I would recommend this game as the first game to buy if you are buying the 3DS for a 6-12 year old. This game is for all ages though! I am a 37 year old mom and bought it so my 8 year old daughter could play around with my new 3DS. I have spent hours more playing with the puppies then she has!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Basics and 2D vs. 3D April 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
If you've played Nintendogs before, expect much of the same thing. You start the game at the kennel, picking out your first puppy. You can choose between a Golden Retriever, Beagle, Shiba, Pinscher, Pug, Dachshund, Maltese, Great Dane, and English Cocker Spaniel. You can choose 1-3 colors of the dog (depending on what breed you pick) or you can let the game choose for you with the "surprise me" color. You have to get a dog first. Once you have a dog, you unlock the ability to get cats (once you earn enough money). The cats are Standard (with colors of solid, tabby, spotted tabby, and calico), Oriental (with colors of pointed and smoke), and Longhair (also with colors of pointed and smoke). In the case of both cats and dogs, once you pick the color you have three different shades or designs of that color to choose from.

The main point of this game is to simply take care of your pet. You feed it, give it water to drink, take it for walks, play with it. You practice for competitions (disc competition, lure coursing, and obedience trial) which get you money to buy supplies for your pets or to buy new pets. There are different shops for different things including pet supplies, accessories, interiors, secondhand, kennel, and pet hotel. There are also shops when you walk your pet. These shops have strange hours. Like the shops, there is also a park and gym (depending where you walk your pet) where you can practice for the competitions. There is also a pedometer function where your pet walks with you. You select pedometer, close your 3DS, put the game system in your pocket, purse, or hand, and walk. For every so many steps you take, your pet collects treats and other various things.

2D vs. 3D. The most noticeable 3D effect is when your pet jumps up and starts licking you. It looks really good with the paws on the screen and the flecks of slobber flying at you. If you're outside with your pet at night, the fireflies look really good in 3D too. Of course children under the age of six should be playing this game in 2D, and even in adults 3D can hurt your eyes after a while, so let me assure you that you won't be missing out if you only play the 2D version. The 2D looks great. Everything in the foreground is clear and crisp. The backgrounds look a little flatter, but you can barely tell. Everything still has depth even when not in 3D. (As a side note, do not use 3D in the dark. It will hurt your eyes.)

The game overall is 7 out of 10 (10 being the highest).

I don't remember the original game, but could you unlock all of the breeds in all of the games? The product description appears to say this: "in each version players can unlock and enjoy more than 20 different breeds"

Why idn't amazon letting me preorder this!?
None of the "Nintendogs +Cats" are available for pre-order yet. I'm assuming that Amazon is waiting for the price and release date of this product from Nintendo before putting it up for pre-order.

I hope it's up for pre-order soon!
