Book Description

November 1, 2007

Over the past two years, Jessica Dimmock has photographed a group of die-hard heroin users living on “The Ninth Floor” of a Manhattan building in a surprising, powerful, and intimate way. The tale of the terrible consequences of heroin abuse has been documented many times before, but Dimmock epitomizes the attitude of the concerned photographer by her deep compassion for the people she portrays. The photographs brilliantly capture the chaotic atmosphere of human lives spinning out of control. Dimmock’s contemporary visual language, coupled with a strong narrative approach, compels the viewer to understanding and to care.

If you're on the verge of losing your humanity and desire to keep it (I hope you do!) this book will assist in bringing you back to empathy.

Gripping tales that remind you why drugs, particularly heroin, should continue to be illegal.

Exceptional photography and story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have!, April 1, 2009
This review is from: The Ninth Floor (Hardcover)
Dimmock's original perspective helps viewers understand familiar
subject matter (addiction) in a new light. Her depictions make clear and eloquent statements on
the human condition. This book is an invaluable resource for those eager
to learn about developing a coherent voice as a photographer in time when it is more difficult to learn
about documentary photography as its markets have been rapidly shrinking and published
monographs are scarce.
