I lost 2/3 of my hair all at once. I was in the ICU last year for pneumonia. If that wasn't bad enough, the staff continued to over hydrate me until I gained 50 pounds in 1 week. I was like the Pillsbury Doughboy. My face and entire head was swollen, along with the rest of my body. It was a nightmare, and caused an additional 2 week stay. I saw a dermatologist that said I had telogen effuvium. I was told Rogain wouldn't help and that causes scalp itching. The doctor said it would be permanant since the hair roots had been crushed. It was devastating. I first tried suppliments for four months without result. Nioxin was on sale, and although the bottle offered wasn't for my hair type, I bought it. After finishing the bottle, I noticed new, curly hair, and my visable scalp was filling in. Additionally my hair actually grew. I then bought the Nioxon formula 4 in the liter set. It's $10 less than all beauty supply stores and other online sites. I'm continuing to see new growth, and very satisfied. It's got a fresh minty smell and has improved the texture of my existing hair. I'm a convert! 5 stars.

I've been using Nioxin's System 4 shampoo and scalp treatment for a couple years now because of thinning and weak hair and a sensitive scalp prone to scaliness even though I have oily skin. Other shampoos have synthetic fragrance that I'm allergic too. This is the best stuff I've found because it makes my scalp healthier and hair feel stronger; BUT don't expect your hair to start growing back in fast, because it took many months for my scalp to get healthy enough before I started noticing new hair growth. I have to use it every day, or my hair gets stringy the next day. I think Nioxin's Scalp Activating Treatment 4 has also helped (it's like mousse). I do recommend it, just be patient for results!

OK, I know writing a review should not be done until I can evaluate how it works, but I think it's important to share info about the reason why the product I received may not work as described by the manufacturer. I rec'd the bottles as shown in the description--they looked new and arrived on time. However, no batch code printed anywhere on the bottles. Nioxin product has a 3-year shelf life so it's important to make sure you are getting fresh product by checking the batch code. The first two numbers of the code indicate the production year, e.g. 11 is 2011. The three numbers following that number is the day of the year (001 through 365) that the product was manufactured. Sometimes a batch code has a dash, in which case the two digits after the dash determine the production year (e.g. -10 is 2010)and there is no way to tell the actual day of the year in this format. If a product does not have a batch code on it then it is highly likely to not be authentic Nioxin product. According to Nioxin they do not have any "authorized" online sellers, but that usually doesn't deter me because there are some brick & mortar salons that are authorized dealers that also sell online. However, I refuse to use accept product that is suspect in origin.

For starters. I am very skeptical when it comes to baldness treatments kind of filing them under the category of Snake Oil and political promises. However this product came recommended by my wife's hair stylist. Even if it didn't help my hair grow back, it was still supposedly a good shampoo and conditioner that would at least help me make the most of what hair I had left. And it didn't cost any more than the other premium shampoo / conditioner brands we have been using.

So simply put, I was losing my hair on top my hairline was racing toward my neck as fast as it would go. I had way more scalp than hair. I started thinning probably 10 years ago, and just didn't think any thing would work...

6 weeks ago, when getting what hair I had left trimmed, the hair lady, that has been doing my wife's families hair since she was in junior high, suggested I try this stuff. Now she is not prone to just pushing any old hair care product. She is known to be a stickler for only recommending things that do what they are supposed to. So I figured, okay, what's to lose? If my hair went much more I was going to shave it all off and go spear bald anyway... So I got the level 4 shampoo, conditioner, and the level 3 spray stuff (I grabbed the wrong bottle, but oh well) and she threw in the dietary supplements.

I did some research on this stuff and how it works. It is supposed to thoroughly clean the hair and folicles, opening up the folicles and then thoroughly feeding the scalp etc... The effect is what other reviewers have noted. And it will be scary at first... The whispy, weak tiny hairs that did manage to grow in the narrowed folicles fell out within a week or so of starting.

I've been using Nioxin since my hair started falling out in 2005. Probably the only reason I still have hair.

I began having major hair loss a couple of years ago. I am female, mind you. I went from really thick, super curly, frizzy hair (I called it my Jew-Fro lol), to very thin, somewhat straight hair. I had very high stress factors of caring for a loved one in cancer decline and death, as well as normal work and children aspects AND having exceptionally high hormones. I attribute my hairloss to that combo. Regardless, I needed to do something before I just shaved my head! I did my research and built up to ingesting high doses of biotin. Although biotin helped GREATLY, I figured out by accident that it also made my hormonal cystic acne worse. So back to the drawing board, I tried the Nioxin line. A few months in now, I am VERY satisfied with the results. I almost can't wait for a year from now when all the new growth is long :) It is very effective. Not only do I have noticeable new growth, but I lose maybe 10% of what I was losing every shower prior to Nioxin (even the biotin didn't help with the loss, it just helped more grow quickly). Things to note: 1. both shampoo and conditioner make your scalp feel fresh, think vicks. Not painful, but odd. 2. massaging the scalp during both shampoo and conditioner steps is a key aspect to their effectiveness. 3. the smell is weird (at least, to me). It's a minty smell, which is not bad at first, but did bother me a little during the day. My resolve is I put a little of my old regular conditioner on over the nioxin conditioner. Really, it could be any cheap conditioner that smells good. I don't smell the weird minty smell anymore at all. And as effective as Nioxin is, I couldn't deduct a start for smell. 4. if you don't have acne issues, you may want to try this topical Nioxin line as well as adding the Biotin vitamin to your regimen. ...Hope this helped. To happy, healthy hair and feeling good about yourself! :)
