Truly great TV,

This review is from: Nip/Tuck: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
The second season of FX's Nip/Tuck went above and beyond the conventions set during it's first season, with plenty of shocks and surprises for all involved. Beginning with Christian (Julian McMahon, soon to be seen as the villainous Dr. Doom in Fantastic Four) fighting for custody of the son he knows isn't his, while Sean (Dylan Walsh) ponders over hitting the big four 0. Eventually, Sean comes across a mysterious "life coach" (Famke Janssen) who soon begins a dangerous affair with Sean's oldest son. This leads to a shocking revelation for Sean, Christian, and Sean's wife Julia (the teriffic Arly Jover) that soon becomes one of the most gut wrenchingly heartbreaking moments on TV today. But it doesn't end there. Christian comes face to face with the possibility that he might be HIV positive, and Sean comes face to face with a knife wielding masked would be killer after he does some pro bono work for victims mutilated by him. All this ends in a season ending cliffhanger that will have you salivating for season three, which hopefully, will be just as surprising. The personal demons of Sean and Christian are what really drive Nip/Tuck, while the incredibly realistic plastic surgery scenes will either help draw you in or completely repel you. Over the course of these episodes, the characters are deconstructed more than one could ever think possible, but the great cast and twisty storytelling will keep you addicted. All in all, Nip/Tuck really became something special in it's second season (there's a reason it's garnered so much acclaim and accolades), and this is definitely the definition of must see TV.

I stumbled upon Nip/Tuck by accident and stayed on purpose. It has to be some of the best stuff on television today. It's not even the subject matter or graphic scenes depicting plastic surgery procedures, that's just there to calm things down a bit. The real shock value comes from the relationships and personalities which can be obsessively engaging. I am especially drawn to the interrelations between Christian and Sean, best friends since college and now partners in their prominent and very successful plastic surgery practice. Christian's outward demeanor is all ego but inside he's just a scared little boy in search of love. He has morals although they stay well hidden and are rarely used. Okay, maybe they just aren't there but he's really handsome, very easy on the eyes and fun to watch, even if it's just as a warning of the type of guy to stay clear of.
Sean seems to struggle with everything, thinks too deeply and is as much of an egotist as his partner but with a little more heart. Everyone in this drama is damaged to some degree but all seem to be seeking redemption which makes it watchable and even endearing in a strange way. As in "Six Feet Under," the cast makes you a little more appreciative of your own problems which seem to shrink in comparison each time you tune in. I love this show!

Idly, one night, I was tuned in to FX, and this show with the bad guy turned good from "Charmed" was on. My wife told me to leave it on because she was a fan of "Charmed". Ever since that night, I have been an ENORMOUS fan of NIP/TUCK. Quite simply, there isn't a better show on television. It's as depraved and sordid as a bad soap opera, but with infinitely better writing, directing and, most of all, acting. Dylan Walsh is great as Sean, who even when he's doing the right thing sometimes seems to be the wrong thing. Joely Richardson is wonderful as the troubled but self-absorbed Julia, who just can't seem to choose what she wants more: A life of luxurious lifelessness or an exciting, passionate romance with the one man who truly loves her. And of course, there's that guy from "Charmed". JULIAN MCMAHON RULES THIS SHOW. It's just that simple. Christian Troy is one of the best characters ever to grace the small screen. A wonderfully hedonistic, and often times, cruel man who no matter how hard he tries just can't seem to mask the good in him. Really what makes this show work above all others is its relationship between Sean and Christian. Their love for each other is so strong that they know that one without the other is just incomplete. In many ways, Sean and Christian are the couple and Julia is the other woman.
Between this show, RESCUE ME, and THE SHIELD, FX is putting out the best series on television. I'm not going to give anything away here, but as the screen cut to black and the credits rolled on the season finale, I am certain a scream could be heard throughout the United States. Possibly Canada. Just to allay your fears, that was ME!!!!! September cannot get here soon enough.

Best show on TV.....HANDS DOWN!,

This review is from: Nip/Tuck: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I had seen a few season one episodes of Nip/Tuck during the airing of the first season but was never really paying much attention. Then, this summer, while at the beach, my friends and I were channel surfing and came across a late night mini Nip/Tuck marathon. We were glued to our seats for the next three hours. We woke up the next day and raced over to Blockbuster to rent the remainder of the first season. When we finished watching it, we were itching for more.
I went on the internet to find out whether the second season had been released yet and unfortunately it hadn't. Being unable to wait, I ordered it from someone in Australia (where apparently it has already come out) and have since watched the complete second season twice!! I cannot tell you how addicting this show is. The acting is sooo phenomenal that you almost feel like the characters are people you know. I don't want to give away any secrets and most of the reviews here already recap the premise of the series, but I'm just here to second everyone's notion that this tv show is a MUST SEE!!! While most people will love it, I cannot guarantee everone will. It is over the top in every way and when I first saw it I was shocked, not knowing these types of things were allowed to be shown on television, basic cable or not. If you give the show a chance though, you'll realize that it's raunchiness is not completely used for the purpose of breaking boundaries, but for telling a compelling story using top notch actors and writers! Ryan Murphey is amazing!!! He's the creator of the show, and I fear his new found recognition may cause Nip/Tuck to be more short lived than any of us want. Look for his new movie coming out called Running With Scissors starring Gwenyth Paltrow and Annette Benning!

I actually do not watch shows like Nip/Tuck, in part because I don't recieve HBO. I remember the first time I saw this drama was in Season 1 and after watching, I didn't think much of it. I was bored the next week and saw it again and for some reason I just kept watching. I don't know why, but I did. The next summer I saw that Nip/Tuck had gotten a second season, I thought I'd check it out because the last season was alright and it managed to keep me entertained. I can now say with absolute certainty that this is the best show on television, this season in particular is it's finest. There is a reason that it one its Golden Globe for best drama, trust me, there is a good reason.
I can understand why people will be skeptical when tuning into this drama for the first time, it's very different. But that's what makes it great; the character development and acting is top notch. Season Two brings back all the famaliar faces you saw in Season One. Beginning with Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh), the moral doctor, who is having trouble with his wife Julie McNamara (Joely Richardson) as well as his teenage son. Throughout the entire season the family is ripped apart and all of the characters are broken, piece by piece. The beautiful and wildly charming Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) is back as well. Christian's character develops throughout the entire season, and we see that he is actually human and has feelings. He tries in vain to keep his son, Wilbur, from his unfit mother. Mid-Season it comes to a climax when Christian's world is turned upside down due to Jules's revelation, which I won't say because it's big and it would be a spoiler. Another plot embedded into all of this chaos is the disarming Ava Moore (Famke Janssen), who just adds to the sinister elements in this show. As a psychologist she can easily get into the character's minds and mess with everyone, she uses this to her advantage in every episode she appears in. Shortly after beginning her sessions with Matt McNamara (John Hensley), Sean's son, she develops a relationship with him and falls in love (??) with him. Matt is completely head over heels for her. The only problem is she is twice is age and Julia and Sean are obviously not to happy about it. As the season peaks and comes to an end, so much happens, I can't even explain it. There are so many disturbing twists, it's just an emotional roller coaster. The relationship between Ava and her "adopted son" is not what it seems to be and, without giving too much away, becomes incredibly powerful in the finale. The cliffhanger in the finale is one of the best cliffhangers I have ever seen. While it seems like it would be predictable, nothing can prepare you for it. Once you get a hit of this show, you won't be able to stop.

Fantastic! It just keeps getting better and better. The second season is even better than the first in some ways. The season finale is always a cliffhanger and it is a continuing story about two plastic surgeons, their practice, their lives and all the people who waltz into and through their world(s). You will want to have the first season before you get the second season and view them in sequential order or you'll be lost by the third season. A must have for your library. You'll watch it again and again.

This review is from: Nip/Tuck: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
The plot turns are amazing. You fall in love with the characters and it feels like you have a stake in the decisions they make. Each episode leaves you wanting more. They can't make them fast enough. I got hooked while in serving in Abu Ghriab prison. My wife in Germany sent me season one. Four of us sat in our cell around a TV and my playstation 2 to play the movie, mortars were exploding just outside our sector and we were hoping that they wouldn't hit the generator so power would stay up and we could finish the episode. The mixture of graphic surgery, sex, relationships and amazing plot twists keep you hooked. You feel it. This is the most amazing series I have ever watched!! Buy it!!

The Best Show On TV,

Nip/Tuck is quite possibly the most bold and original show on tv which makes the dvd worth getting. Season Two of the highly praised show is the best season yet. From secrets being revealed to the first appearence of the carver season two has got all the best episodes. All 16 episodes are here in this 6 disc set, but not many special features. The only features worth watching are the deleted scenes (over 40 minutes of them!), might as well skip the other featurettes. Still, this dvd is worth getting especially if you are a fan of the show. i think buying this set will make you truly fall in love with nip/tuck.

If you are a fan of the show Nip Tuck, then you must have season 2 of this phenomenal show. This is another reason why I'm such a huge fan of TV shows on DVD. When you don't have expanded cable you can't see some of your favorite shows. I don't have the FX channel, so I was so happy when season 2 of Nip/Tuck was released to DVD!!!
In season 2 you have Christian bonding with Wilbur that will eventually be snatched out of his life. Gina is still her usual crazy self. Julia is dealing with the guilt of who Matt's true father is, and her relationship with her mother. Christian having to deal with an HIV scare. Sean and Christian dealing with aging. Sean and Julia's marriage coming apart at the seams. Liz wants to have a child. Matt finding out who his real father is. Sean dealing with a shaky hand. Ava the life coach who seems to need some coaching of her own!!! Ava's messed up son. Kimber Henry is back, and she still loves Christian despite how he treated her. She has a doll made in her image, and wanted Sean to help her make it look authentic in a certain area. Season 2 was good, and had plenty of drama for sure. (...) |
