Pandit Kumar Gandharva is the male Indian singer, North or South, that I admire above all. The reason is simple: the beautiful tone of his voice. In addition, his music shows great control, intelligence, and, of course, HEART My wife, who is no fan of Indian vocal music, asked last night, "Who was that one Indian singer that you were playing a couple nights ago. I did like HIM." It was a Night Melodies CD by Kumar Gandharva. I also have this Nirguni Bhajans CD and it is wonderful. Anyone who is interested in Indian music or hearing something new should investigate the recordings of Pandit Kumar Gandharva. Although he passed away a few years ago, we should be thankful that his music is still with us.

This CD is most highly recomended for those who are starting out to explore Indian Classical Music. This set of nirguni bhajans is a shining example of Pandit Kumar Gandharva's attainment of absoloute perfection and mastery for which he is well known. It is as if the Creator Lord Brahma resided in his heart and soul. Combined with the spiritual lyrics of Sant Kabir Das there will never be a better and more enriching starting point in your magical journey to learn about traditional Indian music.

Pundit Kumar Gandharva affects incredible renditions of songs written by the legendary 14th Century poet Kabir. His soulful singing interspersed with the signature short bursts of high-pitched singing transport us into a surreal world of haunting melodies that are guaranteed to stir the deepest sentiments of our being. Kudos to this great maestro who takes basic folk music and transforms it into such beautiful, complex classical music.

Think about the quality of recording, the lyrics and the singer.
You can't get better than this.
