5.0 out of 5 stars VERY nice
An excellent compilation of mellow mood music from 2 talented DJs Claude Challe and Ravin (of Buddha Bar fame). The first CD is described best as relaxing, calm and smooth, while the second - more upbeat, transient lounging music. With a good mix of Arabic, Hindi and Urdu music, as well as Spanish guitar and other Southern European/African/Latin influences, this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Over-rated aural pleasure
I heard this CD at a resturaunt in Marrakesh this summer and I fell in love with the music. Unfortunately, when I bought the album I was disappointed, somehow it did not sound the same. For those of you expecting to hear New Age/ Middle Eastern melodies (like me), it does not come close. Actuallly, it is more appropriately classified as New Age- Indian groves...

4.0 out of 5 stars Aural Pleasure, December 2, 2000
By A Customer
As an employee in the music sales industry I hear a lot of music of all styles. Upon listening to this album in store, I was hypnotised by the beautiful tunes Claude has selected. By the time I got to Chris Spheris' second track two copies had been sold and several customers had commented on the album. A must for music lovers who love their music to take them away to a place of aural pleasure and nirvanaesqe beats. I also found it a useful introduction to some new artists. The packing and presentation are an exceptional visual interpretation of the sounds within. Overall a fantastic package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sly Sexy Mystical Late Night Head Bobber, March 14, 2001

In the waning hours of an evening at the club, you might drinka coffee in the hope that you will catch that second wind. If you werelistening to Claude Challe & Ravin's Nirvana Lounge, you would notneed that caffeine junket! It is 11:00 pm, and after listening to thissly, sexy, mystical, late night head bobber I can only regret that Idid pay not pay a visit to Challe at the Buddha Bar in Paris lastyear. Start with CD 1 which is heavily infused with easternmusic/lyrical content. A steady musical mantra. Ohm Shanti Ohm. CleverMonsieurs Challe and Ravin actually connect the musical dots of theMiddle East, South America and Africa. Brilliant. Around the world inCD1. The caffeine is in the stream now. Slip in CD2. Get started witha swarmy latin called Senor Coconut! I finally hear the version that IWOULD MIX (!)of that classic "Summertime". CD2 comprisesmore of the suave in-house dance that is very hip these days. ... CD2is in part, the Challe I am not very fond of, but the music is sogreat and so unusual that one has to sit up and take notice....Nirvana Lounge alludes and pays hommage to it all. CD2 IS aptlycalled "Ethnic Lounge". ... Own this CD and be enlightenedyourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oui, Oui, January 5, 2002

Claude Challe & Ravin have assembled a wonderful collection of arabic and rai- inspired trippy tunes. I have listened to this CD while working, while painting, and I played it start to finish at my New Year's Eve lounge party to rave reviews. Merci Beaucoup, Claude and Ravin!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best fusion musion I've heard in a while, December 30, 2003
By
This review is from: Nirvana Lounge (Audio CD)
I first heard this CD while dining at a restaurant that specialized in "creative world fusion cuisine". An Indian classical composition in the background caught my attention, appropriately enough, a few tracks later was a song with a distinctly Arabic rhythm. This music is an astounding collection of fusion sounds. Turn it on to relax at night, to start a quiet party at home, or to calm your nerves during rush hour (unless you're easily entranced - this music can get hypnotic!).

It is strange how the music can influence your state of mind. The wonderful oriental melodies sensibly incorporated into Claude Challe's rythm dives deep into soul and make one's mind vonder in direction the listener is free to choose...

4.0 out of 5 stars Too much hip hop overlay, April 23, 2008

This could do without the hip hop overlay stuff. Some European DJs need to understand that throwing random rap snippets into a piece, like in Yarada, does not automatically make it cool and hep. Other than that problem, liked it a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars so tasteful you may o'dose, April 12, 2001
This is an immaculately conceived dinner party album. The first cd, "Nirvanesque", segues swooningly from one gorgeous 'world fusion' track to the next; best consumed with plain food. The second cd is more upbeat and varied, and consequently far more interesting; the second half, especially, builds to a great climax. Boxed in lavish, expensive packaging, you'll pay through the nose for this but feel oddly privileged for having done so.
