I can get this locally at Asian stores but many Asians won't buy this because it costs more than regular rice so the stock in the local stores tends to be older. The rice I have gotten from amazon is always fresh.
I love the taste and texture of this and it can used for sushi, No need to buy a small jar of expensive sushi rice, this is just as good and costs a lot less.
It is also great for any rice dish and it clumps better than long grain making it easier to eat with chopsticks.
Use slightly less water than you might usually use for standard long grain.

This Nishiki rice is pretty much the standard American medium grain rice that's not so bad when it's first cooked. It's until you eat premium quality rice like tamanishiki and koshihikari that you'll know Nishki is a sub-par rice sold anywhere else.

If you want QUALITY sushi it starts with the rice. Nishiki is not something I would personally use. You'll know the difference right away with the texture.

But of course, preparation can make a huge difference. Wash your rice and let the rice sit in the bowl for 20 minutes to soak. Re-rinse and measure the water again and turn on the rice cooker (or the pot if you're cooking manually). If you don't have a rice cooker though I would get one. It's worth it and very cheap for a simple rice cooker. Feel free to read my review on tamanishiki rice.

A nice sticky rice with a high starch content. Reminds me a lot of Diamond G calrose rice I grew up on in Hawaii. Very sticky after a light rinse, starch can be controlled some with multiple rinses prior to cooking. Good stuff!

This is the only rice I buy, but its not available in a lot of stores, so ordering the big bag on Amazon is great.

In a rice cooker, it always comes out perfect and the taste and texture makes you really appreciate the difference between qualities of rice.

This is a decent California-grown medium grain rice. If you didn't grow up eating rice every day or aren't real careful about how you cook it, then you probably won't notice the taste difference between Nishiki and higher priced products. Watch out for the price, though. My local supermarket sells this brand for $16 for 15 pound bag, and it regularly goes on sale for about $12 (less than half of Amazon's price). Amazon is surely jacking up the price to pay for your "free" shipping.
