5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing little (tall) bottle!
Let's start with the outside... it's made of stainless steel, I can probably beat somebody with it and it won't make a dent, and it's tall but compact. It's also made in Malaysia.

So, what do we have here? It's a very spacious, 34 ounce thermos. And boy does it work, and well! It was in the high 80s out today, and I filled my new thermos with organic apple...

Let's start with the outside... it's made of stainless steel, I can probably beat somebody with it and it won't make a dent, and it's tall but compact. It's also made in Malaysia.

So, what do we have here? It's a very spacious, 34 ounce thermos. And boy does it work, and well! It was in the high 80s out today, and I filled my new thermos with organic apple juice. I put it in my messenger bag, and ran numerous errands all day in the heat, and with the bottle bouncing around inside the bag as I ran, walked, and climbed numerous steps into, and out of the subway.

The end result? 12 hours or so later, the apple juice is still cold! (what's left of it) And nothing leaked out, nope. You can tell the stopper and lid are meant to keep things (including the cold) inside.

So, to get to the liquid, first there's the main cap that you screw off. Below that layer is a plastic stopper, recycling code 05. Unscrew that, and ah, liquidy goodness!

The only thing that may be difficult is cleaning, as it's a tall bottle, and hard to get into... my method thus far is dropping water and soap in it, covering it, and shaking it furiously like I'm mixing a drink or something. This seems to work well.

I make my tea early in the morning, pour it into this Nissan thermos, and 8 hours later my tea is still very hot. This thermos looks good, has convenient cork that unscrews just a little bit to pour out my drink, and it keeps my tea HOT for long long time. Pretty good for a thermos.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite purchase from Amazon.com, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Thermos Nissan FBB1000 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase Bottle (Kitchen)
Leave it to some engineers to produce one of the best products on the market. The Nissan Thermos is excellent. The high vacuum means that my coffee made today is still hot enough to drink tomorrow, no lie. In one case I made coffee on a friday morning, filled the thermos full, and forgot about it. I use a french press and always pour into the thermos after it's made. Sunday morning when I went to make coffee, I realized that the thermos was still full. The coffee inside was still hot and almost as fresh as if I had just made it.

In my opinion, this high-vacuum thermos is the best on the market.

Another shock, the thermos came with a pamplet of plots and charts. They were temperature vs. time plots comparing their high vacuum to an unspecified lower vacuum and a non-vacuum insulated thermos. Being an engineer myself, I got a large kick out of this.

Only complaint: The rubber seal on the top is absorbant. Since the second use, the seal has smelled of old coffee. When I put tea in the thermos the next day it took on a hint of this smell. The seal is a vital component of the thermos, without which it leaks and does not hold heat as well.

It holds just over a half pot of coffee (6 cups, according to Cuisinart).

Overall, the Nissan Stainless Steel briefcase bottle is, without a doubt, my favorite purchase from Amazon.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vastly exceeded performance expectations, June 13, 2006

The Nissan Thermos FBB1000 is a sleek brushed stainless steel thermos with vacuum-sealed insulation and 875 mL storage capacity. The thermos exceeded my expectations on capacity to retain temperature of contents for extended periods of time.

After placing all 3 components in the freezer (-5 Celcius) for 10 minutes, I filled the thermos with 7 1-inch cylindrical ice cubes and immediately capped the thermos. It was placed in direct sunlight with daytime temperatures around 28 Celcius and nightime lows around 12 Celcius. After 48 hours, gentle shaking sounded like the contents remained frozen in ice. By day five, it remained mostly ice. Not until day 6.5 were the original ice cube contents in the thermos completely melted.

While I haven't measured temperatures of hot liquids, the FBB1000 was able to retain the temperature of hot coffee for at least 12 hours.

My rating of five stars for the Nissan Thermos FBB1000 is primarily based on:

* Sleek design
* Durability/quality of materials & manufacturing
* Retains temperatures under extreme conditions for durations far exceeding product specifications

Very light, simple, keeps things hot very long. Does not leak, easy to pour without opening it completely. Easy to clean, looks very good. So far, I'm very happy with it and recommended it to my friends.

As instructed, prior to placing my coffee into the thermos, I fill it with hot water. After draining the hot water, I then fill it with the coffee and seal the thermos. As I leave my house very early each morning, I am filling the thermos with my coffee at 3:30 a.m. However, I do not actually pour my first cup of coffee until 7 a.m. While it is still warm, it is by no means as hot as the manufacturer claims that it should be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Thermos, October 14, 2005

This review is from: Thermos Nissan FBB1000 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase Bottle (Kitchen)
I bought this thermos when I moved off campus. I now make my coffee when I leave my apartment in the morning (6 am) and pack it in this thermos so I don't have to run to the overpriced on-campus coffee shop. I work at my desk and attend class throughout the morning, always wanting a cup of coffee when I'm at my desk. The coffee coming from this thermos through the early afternoon (when I stop drinking coffee) is so hot that I have to let it cool for seval minutes in my mug.

The other day I didn't make it back to my apartment until after 10 pm. When I dumped the remaining coffee out, it was still steaming hot.

My one complaint is the stainless steel exterior shows finger prints and what not unless you wipe it off frequently. Being a neat freak, I do.

Over all, I love it.

For those of you who buy coffee all day at work, I implore you to look at this product. This leakproof (carried; no, bounced around in my *laptop* bag all day) container has served me well in the month that I've owned it...and I reach for the thermos instead of going to whatever coffee shop I can find when the urge hits. This is a great addition to my life, and I strongly recommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vacuum insulation failed after six months, November 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Thermos Nissan FBB1000 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase Bottle (Kitchen)
I used this thermos to bring my coffee with to work with me. Then it stopped insulating.

I'll admit that it worked very well for six months, and I used it every work day. My coffee stayed very hot. Unfortunately, it now won't keep my coffee warm for more that an hour or two.

I never dropped it, or slammed it against anything. It has no dents in it, and the stopper still works fine. One day it kept my coffee hot, the next day it didn't. The insulation just stopped insulating.

It only worked for six months, that's not acceptable. A quality product would have lasted longer.
