Nissin Di466 for Canon, Nikon, & Four-Thirds

POINT & SHOOT

Clip it on, aim, and shoot; it's as simple as that. This cutting-edge photographic technology for AF and TTL auto exposure systems never fails to deliver great results. The Di466 is easy to operate and produces amazing images.

For Every Occasion

This flash produces the same color as sunlight. It is very helpful for daylight photography, eliminating the shade under trees or to fill in a heavily sunlit subject. Add catch lights in the eyes, stop motion, or create high a contrast image.

FIRMWARE UPDATE

Tired of your flash no longer whenever a new camera comes onto the market?
Firmware upgrades are available for the Di466 through the provided USB service terminal.

COMPATIBILITY

Please check the compatibility chart.

KEY FEATURES

TTL FLASH
The Di466 responds to Canon's E-TTL, E-TTL II system, and Nikon's i-TTL system.
These digital TTL flash systems control the flash output with greater precision and predictability.

NISSIN ORIGINAL “MY TTL” SETTING
The TTL flash power level is pre-set at the factory. You can, however, reset the power to a desired exposure level, in +-3/4Ev. by 1/4Ev increments. The preset value is memorized as your personal standard after switching the unit off.
This unique system for customizing your settings, called MY TTL, is a feature exclusive to Nissin.
The usual TTL flash level compensation works based on this customized level.

TTL FLASH LEVEL COMPENSATION
Back_panelThe power of the flash can be controlled with TTL flash level compensation.
Whereas total exposure is controlled by the camera's EV compensation function, the flash can compensate for the exposure on the main subject only, with little impact on the exposure of the background.
The flash power level can be adjusted from -1.5EV through +1.5EV by 0.5EV steps.

BATTERY MAGAZINE Quick Loading System
Battery2 sec. loading with the original Nissin battery magazine.
A convenient battery magazine has the slots for all four batteries in the same direction, with an anti-reverse loading guide so that the batteries can be correctly inserted every time, even in poor lighting. Extra battery magazines are available for purchase.

DUAL PROGRAM WIRELESS REMOTE FLASH

RemoteThe wireless remote flash system of Di466 works for either analog (single flash) and digital (pre-flash) flash systems. Variable power in six steps is available.
Place the Di466 off the camera and the flash synchronizes with the master flash placed on your camera. This wireless remote flash system is called a slave flash and is often used for a creative lighting.
Use the camera's built-in flash, the manufacturer's original flash, or any other Nissin flash as the master flash. Place one or more Di466 flash units away from the camera.
Use multiple Di466 flash units to achieve professional images.

POWER ZOOM & TURNING FLASH HEAD
FilterWidepanelLight distribution angle is automatically adjusted for the lens focal length. A high quality stepping motor sharply traces the lens movement with the same speed as that of the camera manufacturer's original flash.
The flash beam covers the frame from 14mm (with a wide angle diffuser built-in) to 70mm of the digital lens.(*) For a longer lens, the flash head reflector position stays at 70mm.
It turns 90 degree upward for bounce lighting.
The flash head also stores a small reflection panel for fill in shots.
(*) The focal length for the traditional SLR camera is to be multiplied by a factor of 1.5 times.

MORE

Energy saving system
The Di466 has a dual energy saving system.
It automatically enters sleep mode when it's not in use for 5 min., and is reactivated with a touch of the shutter button or any button of the flash.
If the unit is not in use for 30 minutes, it will automatically power off.
With the flash unit set for slave mode, sleep mode is canceled and the automatic turn off time is extended to 60 minutes.

Variable Power
When selecting manual power operation, choose from one of the six variable powers for the best lighting effect.
The power level is provided from full power down to 1/32nd power in 1.0Ev increments.

AF Assist beam
In darkness or dim light conditions, the Di466 beams an orange LED light to create a sharp contrast to enable the camera's focus sensor to focus easily on the subject.

Color Filter Guide
The Di466 has a guide rail for filters. Color filters and density filters can slide into the slot provided at the front of flash window.

Flash Power Lock system
The Di466 is compatible with either the FE lock (Canon) or FV lock (Nikon) system.
Refer to the camera owner's manual for details.

Rear curtain synch. system
Nikon and some Canon cameras can be set for rear curtain synch. photography.

Red Eye reduction
Available with Nikon cameras only. A small flash beam is automatically produced for short distance portrait shots to prevent red-eye.

Customer Reviews

It worked well as a flash with my Olympus E510.

I'd like a head that declines below 0 degrees but with the wide panel and reflector card, I was good to go.
Random Acts man
This Nissin flash uses 4 AA batteries, which means more pictures and much faster recycling time.

I hesitated on ordering these at first because I thought they looked too big for my Panasonic GF2 camera. However, after ordering them I am so happy I picked these up! It is an awesome flash and works great on a Micro Four Thirds body. No issues with slave mode too. I also ordered the Yongnuo RF-602 remote trigger for these to go with my camera.

The picture makes it look bigger than it really is. After I got my Di466 in the mail I was pleasantly surprised by how small it was. Its not tiny like the Metz AF-24 but its not much bigger and you get so much more power and manual options.

A must buy for any M4/3 user.

Picked this up at a local camera store as I was headed to an indoor event and wanted/needed a better flash than the pop-up unit on the camera.

The unit syncs its internal zoom level to the camera's zoom level automatically and very quietly, so if you're taking a wider-angle shot the flash will adjust to wide-angle coverage. The zoom will 'max out' at 70mm equivalent (35mm on the m4/3 system lens), but I haven't tested the effect of taking a longer zoom shot with this flash yet.

The battery cartridge system is very easy to use; if you expect to be taking a lot of flash shots, you can buy additional cartridges and preload them for fairly quick changes. Also nice is the way that all the batteries go in the same direction, no worrying about did I put the + side down on the wrong battery (well, unless you do it wrong for all four...)

This flash has done wonders for my pictures already. It's not the strongest GN out there, but the price is right, and the feature set is great for the price. I was looking at the Metz 36 in the same price range, but that has a manual zoom compared with the motorized reflector in the Nissin. The diffuser and fill card are really handy as well. My only reason for not giving a full five stars is that the AF Assist lamp doesn't work with the Micro 4/3s system. No mention is made of this on the product page, or Nissin's own information page. Maybe it will become useful in the future through some firmware update, hopefully. I am curious how strong the assist light is compared with the one built into my GF1.

Great flash! it is a bargain at $140.00 and works way better than the Olympus' own FL-36 flash unit. The latter works with 2 AA batteries. This Nissin flash uses 4 AA batteries, which means more pictures and much faster recycling time. In my hands, the flash recycles in about 1-2 seconds with rechargeable batteries. This unit is also compact, and the built in diffuser and bouncer work perfectly. No complaints so far.

I put batteries in, attached to my Lumix FZ100, turned on the flash, turned on the camera and set it to forced flash and took a perfectly exposed picture. My camera was set to P and whatever else I normally have set to just grab and shoot. I am happy. I can hear the flash zoom as I zoom the camera. Also flashes when using a PIXEL RW221/RS1 for for Panasonic remote. I shall now go read the instructions.

11/22/11, I've been using this for over a month now with no issues. The flash works with all flash settings on the Lumix FZ100 YES!!

5/22/13, Just got the newer FZ200 two weeks ago, The flash? All smiles from this shutterbug, and nothing but bright, well illuminated pictures. Again works on all settings.

It worked well as a flash with my Olympus E510. Fast recycling time. Provided good fill and catch lights when bounced on a Lumiquest reflector and bracket for an outside wedding. Hard to find a small, powerful, and reasonable priced flash like this.

The strobe does everything it advertises it will do. I wanted a tilt capability in addition to the bounce capability. The error is mine. I knew it only had the bounce capability before I bought it but, I was swayed by the cheap cost. As a value for the price, it can't be beat. Direct flash on a flip bracket is the way to go for this strobe.
