Product Description

From the Manufacturer

CLIP & SHOOT

  1. Clip it on the camera.
  2. Switch it on.
  3. Release the shutter button.
The flash fires and its light is automatically controlled by the camera + flash TTL dedicated system.
EVERY OPPORTUNITY
Many photographers think of using a flash only at night or in poor lighting. However, a flash can be very useful in daylight too. Eliminate the shade under trees. Use fill-in lighting to sharpen the subject. Address catchlight in the eyes, and stop motion. Emphasize the lighting contrast. Enjoy more opportunities to use your flash.
FIRMWARE UPDATE
Tired of your flash no longer working whenever a new camera comes onto the market ? A firmware upgrade service is available for the Di622 , which provides a service terminal to upload the latest software. A charge for the firmware update service will apply, varying depending on the area. Please check at your local dealer for details about the update service.

COMPATIBILITY
Please check the compatibility chart.

KEY FEATURES

TTL FLASH
Di622 is compatible with Canon's E-TTL, E-TTLII system, and Nikon's i-TTL system. Those new digital TTL flash systems control the flash light with greater precision and stability.

POWER ZOOM & TURNING FLASH HEAD
The light distribution angle is automatically adjusted for the lens focal length. A high quality stepping motor sharply traces the lens movement with the same speed as that of the camera manufacturer's original flash model.

BOUNCE FLASH
The flash beam covers the frame from 14mm (with a wide angle diffuser built-in) to 70mm of the digital lens.(*) For a longer lens, the flash head reflector position stays at 70mm. It turns 90 degrees upward and 270 degrees horizontally for bounce lighting.
The flash head also stores a small reflection panel for fill-in shots. (*) The focal length for the traditional SLR camera is to be multiplied b a factor of 1.5.
OFF CAMERA FLASH
The Di622 has a special photo sensor built-in. Place the Di622 off camera and the flash will synchronize with the master flash placed on your camera. This wireless remote flash system is called slave flash technology and is often used for a creative lighting efficiency. Use the camera's built in flash, the camera manufacture's original flash or the Di622 as the master flash. Place one or more Di622 flash units away from the camera. The sensor circuitry of Di622 is compatible only with the latest pre-flash TTL system offered by Canon or Nikon The Di622 is not compatible with traditional flash systems or studio flash systems.
MORE

Energy saving system The Di622 has a dual energy saving system. It automatically enters sleep mode when it's not in use for 5 min., and is reset with a touch of the shutter button or any button of the flash. If the unit is not in use for 30 minutes, it will automatically power off. With the flash unit set for slave mode, sleep mode is cancelled and the unit will not automatically turn off until 60 minutes have elapsed.

High Power
G.No.62(ISO 200) is obtained at the reflector position for 105mm focal length lens, and 45 at 35mm. (Reference: The guide number of the flash built in the camera is16 approx. at ISO 200)

Variable Power
When selecting manual power operation, choose from one of the six variable powers for the best lighting effect. The power level is provided from full power (G.No.62) down to 1/32nd power in 1.0Ev increments.

AF Assist beam
In darkness or dim light conditions, the Di622 beams a red light to create a sharp contrast to enable the camera's focus sensor to focus easily on the subject.

Flash Power Lock system
The Di622 is compatible with either the FE lock (Canon) or FV lock (Nikon) system. Refer to the camera owner's manual for details.

Rear curtainsynchro. system
Nikon and some Canon camerra's set the flash for rear curtain synch. photography. The Di622 follows the command signal of theses cameras.

Red Eye reduction
Available with Nikon cameras only. A small flash beam is automatically produced for short distance portrait shots to prevent the red-eye phenomenon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like Canon 430EX II, November 22, 2009

This review is from: Nissin Di622 Speedlight for Canon Digital SLR Cameras, Guide number 145 (Electronics)
I'm not a professional photographer so I really don't want to spend a lot for a flash. Then I read about Nissin Di622 which is manufactured by one of Japan's oldest camera flash manufacturers. As soon as I received this flash, I decided to compare it to my friend's Canon 430EX II which he highly recommends for my Canon XSi. So here are the reasons why I highly recommend this flash:

1) First of all, the price. Di622 is solidly built that cost almost half the price of the equivalent Canon 430EX II.

2) It comes with TTL (Through The Lens) flash metering system which you would normally find on a high end flash.

3) The zoom flash head can tilt/swivel and turn all the way back which I find a must have to create directional light shooting indoors by bouncing off the walls or ceiling.

4) Its also great slave flash. It synchronizes very well with the master flash.

5) It comes with built-in wide angle Diffuser and fill-in Reflector panel. I use the Diffuser a lot to create softer light.

6) It automatically enters sleep mode when it's not in use for 5 min and is reset with a touch of the shutter button or any button of the flash.

Overall, I find Nissin Di622 well made and equivalent to a Canon 430EX II. For the price difference, I decided to buy a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Flash and a money saver, August 26, 2009
I have used this flash for several weddings and just general use. And I have been VERY impressed. 4 regular AA batteries have lasted for nearly an entire wedding. The output is very consistent. I found no problems when used in Ettl and in manual. The recycle time is rather quick and as I mentioned the output consistent. One minor thing is that it has no 2nd curtain sync feature (if you use it).
It's NOT a EX-580 (I-II) but it is a VERY capable flash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Canon?, February 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a terrific flash. As far as I can tell, it is 100% compatible with the Canon flash. The big difference? This Nissin costs a fraction of the Canon price.

Well made, huge amount of flash power, exposes perfectly when used with Canon 450D. Works well with a difuser (home made) and bounce flash.

I have not tested the unit in slave mode.

Placed order through Amazon and am delighted with their service and shipping.
