This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review for anything and I buy lots of items from Amazon. My daughter came home from a summer visit at her father's infested with lice. I thought it would be simple to get rid of. No clothes were allowed inside until washed. I treated her head with lice treatment. I spent two days picking out bugs and nits. One day at hotel and one at home. I colored her hair. All this before she was allowed into her bedroom. I know I spent over 12 hours straight combing through her hair and hand picking out bugs and nits. I have never seen anything like her infestation before. After having live bugs still running away from me after the lice treatment, I read all I could on the internet for other treatments. Mayo. Listerine. Olive Oil. Tree Tea Oil. Peppermint Shampoo. Tree Tea shampoo. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to get rid of these things. They all seemed to work to a certain degree, but not totally. I still combed nits out daily. You have to understand, when she first came home, she had 2 or 3 nits on what seemed like EVERY hair on her head. After 2 months my daughter's hair was prettier then it had ever been...although shorter to be sure! But I still found nits and bugs on occasion. I was at wit's end and shared many tears of frustration with my daughter. Who at no fault of her own felt so bad that she had these nasty creatures in her hair. Never have I been so frustrated or angry. I hated those little bugs!!!! Then I gave up and said ok, I'll try the stupid comb. What's 20 more bucks gonna hurt? The first night I combed though her hair and couldn't believe the stuff it pulled out. I had just dyed her hair (yet again) to try to kill off the little buggers, and I know I combed out over a dozen of them.Read more ›

Friends, I was once like you. Frantically reading product review after review, searching for the magical solution to my sudden lice problem. Search no further.

Does this have electricity that will kill lice? No it doesn't.
Does this have pesticide in the teeth to kill lice? Nope, not at all.
Does this have teeth so close together, and so perfectly grooved that absolutely nothing will escape? DING DING DING!

Stop scratching your head and order it. It's only $10. You're going to spend more on lotions and potions that you'll end up returning to the local walmart, than you will on this comb, and this is the only thing you'll need. I will tell you why just as soon as you order. Go! Order it right now, and then come back to read my sparkling review, k?
(you ordered it, right?)

Ok, here goes:

Friday afternoon at pickup, I noticed a nit on a strand of my daughters hair. I looked closer, and can now see several. Upon even closer inspection, I can no longer deny it. This child has lice. Feces! *please don't let the little one have it, please don't let the little one have it* chants through my mind as my other child, the curly headed one, skips toward me from kindergarten. I lean in for a look... oh. my. lord. The older one CAUGHT it from the little one (I can tell, because on a scale of 1-to-HOLY CRAP, the older child is a one and the baby is about a 4) After I pick myself off the ground, we head to the pharmacy.

So much to choose from! What is a mom to do? I stand there, confusedly trying to decide between Nix and Rid, Store brand and Lice Freee (total waste of money, by the way. The "active ingredient" Naturum muriaticum, is a fancy name for salt! $9 for a sprayable bottle of salt, thankyouvery much..

I cannot say enough about this comb. My daughter came home with her first case of headlice yesterday and my first stop was to buy the RID kit. Lets just say the plastic comb and the nit loosening gel didn't help much. The shampoo killed and slowed down the 8 or so adults I pulled from her head. It also pulled some smaller ones. Once her head was dry I was better able to see just how many nits- especially by her neck and behind her ears- were left. Frustrated I went to the pet store for a finer toothed flea comb. I came home, rerinsed, geled, and combed again pulling out less than I did the first time which I was hoping was a good sign (not so much to remove?). Not so much... the metal flea comb simply pulled out what the plastic combs teeth were too wide to get. After her hair dryed I could see we still had a major challenge on our hands.

Frustrated, I read online that white viniger helps loosen the nit glue so I tried rinsing her head and spraying it with vinegar then recombing with the metal comb. Removed some more baby lice, but didn't do much for the nits. I'm sooo happy I found this comb on Amazon. Ordered it with next day shipping and when it arrived today I rewashed her hair, and without even using the "loosening gel" that came with the rid kit, two passes behind her ear made my jaw drop! I uploaded a photo here on Amazon so you can see just how amazing this comb is! I debated if I really wanted to upload a photo of what I pulled out of my daughter's hair but I figure in 15 years this probably won't come back to haunt her, and the picture is a great testimony for this brush to anybody who is on the fence! Just for laughs I did run the metal flea comb through her hair before using the Nit Free comb and as I expected there was little change.
