4.0 out of 5 stars A tribute album to a Canadian late-night radio show, May 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nitelines Sessions (Audio CD)
First of all, the name of the album is "Nightlines", not Nitzlines.

With that out of the way, I'll say that this is a great album and a necessary part of your Rheostatics collection. Be warned, however, if you're not familar with the other music of the band, you'd be better off getting their other albums first. "Nightlines" is very different from their usual work as it was done as a special project.

Nightlines was the name of a late night music program on Canada's CBC-FM radio network. It specialized in showcasing up and coming Canadian bands, as well as those already at the top of the field (like the Rheostatics). The music varied widely, but the show always had a rugged underground feel to it which made it so popular with the late night fans.

With this album, the Rheostatics wanted to put together a collection of unreleased radio and studio sessions that would pay tribute to the long running show and highlight its eclectic nature. The result is a dark and sometimes wacky collection, but this CD contains some real gems. "Majorca" is an instant classic while "Stolen Car" shows the Rheostatics at their best.

This CD is not for everyone, but if you're a Rheostatics fan, this is a "must-have". Be sure and check out the other excellent albums by this band!
