TouchDown
Efficient e-mail management comes to Android
TouchDown
Quickly setup your account with ActiveSync, check on diagnostics, and other advanced settings
TouchDown
Dive into the advanced options, choose e-mail style, and setup synchronization

Exchange By Touchdown is the ultimate productivity tool for the hard-working smartphone user. Use this app to connect to your company's Exchange Server with secure access to your corporate e-mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes. With TouchDown, you receive your company e-mail immediately using push technology. You can also send e-mails, address appointment requests, edit your contact list, and manage your tasks and notes. Try out this application for a full 30 days and decide for yourself. If you want to activate the full version of Exchange By TouchDown, simply upgrade by purchasing the Exchange By Touchdown Key app.

Supported Servers

TouchDown works with a variety of e-mail servers for your convenience. Exchange Server 2003 SP2 and above, Zimbra, and Kerio are all supported by default with this app. If your server is enabled for ActiveSync protocol and supports AutoDiscovery, you can configure your account easily by entering your e-mail address credentials. The option is also there to configure your account manually if needed. TouchDown does not work with POP3 or IMAP servers.

Data and SD Card Encryption

TouchDown honors the data encryption policy by encrypting the sensitive fields in e-mails as well as calendar and contact entries that are stored on the device. TouchDown employs 3DES encryption for sensitive data stored on your device.

Android does not support an encrypted file system on the SD card. If the server requests SD card encryption policy, TouchDown honors that by encrypting the attachments downloaded to the SD card using 3DES encryption. If the removable card encryption policy is enforced, moving the SD card from one device to another renders the downloaded attachment files unreadable.

Remote Wipe

If your device is lost or stolen, you can be sure that your information stays secure with TouchDown. This app supports the remote wipe command which can be issued by an administrator or a user in the event that your smartphone cannot be found. This remote wipe process deletes all the corporate data held inside TouchDown as well as any attachments under its control.

E-mail-Initiated Data Wipe

For users that don't use ActiveSync or may not have an administrator readily available for a remote wipe, TouchDown has you covered. Head into your settings and set a Remote Kill Code by pressing the Remote Kill button. Simply sending an email to your account with a unique subject line from another account will cause the device to lose the TouchDown data. The subject will have to contain your Kill Code which will look something like this: "TDKILL:[KILLCODE]" ([KILLCODE] represents your specified code). You can also get some assurance by specifying another phone number to receive an SMS message confirming the wipe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only supports ONE account at a time November 19, 2011

When you see so many pure-positive reviews, it's sometimes because we know that fans of a product will thumbs-down (or "unhelpful") an accurate and honest review that finds flaws in a product they love. That really squelches negative reviews.

I must always be connected to three email accounts, two of which are different (and tricky) Exchange servers. My Android phones can connect, but most fuller email clients have a hard time. The Kindle Fire basic email only handles POP and IMAP. Most of the other Kindle Fire-compatible email apps (e.g. K-9, which is free) couldn't configure for them.

TouchDown does. No problem there. But only one account at a time. To use the other, I must switch profiles, effectively logging out of one and into the other.

It is the easiest and fullest product available if one Exchange account is sufficient for you though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best exchange active sync for Fire out there November 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I am the owner of a computer consulting company and have five other devices besides the kindle fire. I was disappointed by the internal email client and downloaded touchdown. I was configured and running in less then 5 minutes and had a complete sync of information shortly there after. It fully populated emails, contacts, tasks, and calendar. It supports more features then some other device implementations of activesync. Such as categories is calendars, and followup flags in tasks.

Wonderful program. Very reasonable price, and doesn't require "tech support" to setup and be productive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works VERY well for me :-) May 25, 2011

We have a corporate exchange server and we are required to use this App with ActiveSync on most Android phones to meet security concerns.

It took quite a while to set it up properly, but once I finally figured it all out, it is working great. I have zero complaints regarding day to day usage and I like that I can see my tasks as well as calendar and email and contacts (this may be the ONLY app out there that will sync tasks). I rely heavily on Tasks in Exchange and this does not seem to have a size limit either (my old Microsoft phone would mercilessly cut them off if they got too long in Exchange).

I like that the corporate required password is not blocking my phone, just email. I like the summary that brings all the important tasks and calendar items and emails on one main entry screen. I like the HUGE buttons to enter my password.

Since it is primary designed to work with Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, I am suprised to find that they did not follow the contact field names more closely. Mostly with addresses. They have 3 boxes without description. In Outlook each box represents Home/Business/Other and within each, there are multiple fields for Street, City, State, ZipCode. In Touchdown, you have to know ahead of time which box is Home and that one box is the entire address and each line is a separate field. VERY non-intuitive.

I would like it even more if it showed my email items in my todo list as it does in Outlook instead of just tasks and calendar items.

It took a while to find it, but there are lots of options for notification sounds under the eMail Alerts button.

<Update: My firm recently updated their exchange server and I was having trouble with Touchdown not seeing the categories properly. I cleared the data and uninstalled Touchdown and reinstalled it and it works beautifully now. Every single complaint I had has been addressed and it looks more polished as well.

Complaints addressed: You can now link back to edit the contact within Touchdown from the Android/Phone contact list. You can now link back to view the contact info from the header of an email. You can now click and delete multiple emails at once and they are now also deleted on the Exchange server as well (not just the phone). I am a VERY happy camper right now.>

3.0 out of 5 stars Good... for a free app.
This app works ok, considering it's a free app. I don't think it would be worth $20 to buy the full app. It lagged a lot! Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't need it
I couldn't make it work. I'd suggest something a bit easier to set up. There's better apps available in short. Find one of those and forget this one.
