Once I saw this watch I knew I'd be thinking about buying it until it was on my wrist, and I waited for over a year to get this watch at the right price. Finally had some disposable income and the price was right, so I pulled the trigger and man was it worth the wait!

While at first glance this watch appears to be just a smaller Nixon 51-30, there are some slight differences I have noticed and enjoy. In fact I now prefer this watch over the 51-30 models I own.

-Of course this watch isn't as big and heavy as the 51 series -but I like that- and it is still large and flashy enough to get noticed.
-The chrono and information on this watch are slightly different than that of the 51-30, there is no 24 hour time hand, instead there is a white 1/10 of a second hand that quickly rotates when you use the chrono.
-I love the long red chronograph hand that ticks every 1/4 second as opposed to slowly for each second like the 51-30 series, very nice differentiating detail that I don't think many people know before they buy this watch- I know I didn't. The movement makes it look similar to watches where the second hand is "sweeping" and continuous. I favor this over the 51-30, it really makes it seem like a higher end watch than the 51-30 series in my opinion.
-I also like how the different function hands are 3 different colors, keeps it from looking plain like some of the 51's.
-The brushed steel detail on the band is different than that of the band on any other big faced Nixon I own.
-The numbers on the face are glossy and change appearance at different angles.
-I like the red arrow detail on the bezel, and there is also red on the top chrono reset button, very cool.

Leave it to Nixon to not skimp on the details!

The only criticism I have is that the silver hour and minute hands don't really stand out like they do in the photo, they are kind of a flat color instead of glossy. They blend in with the dark face and numbers on the watch sometimes, so once it gets dark it is pretty hard to tell time unless you give it a good look. But this is just a small detail and I wouldn't change my mind about getting this watch at all.

If you're a watch guy and are looking for a Nixon chrono to wear all the time, and don't want to be carrying around a big bulky 51-30, I would say pass on the 51's and go for this, it's much more practical, and it looks and feels great. You won't regret it!

Nixon watches are amazing, and this one is no different. I've got a skinny wrist, so the 48-20 was perfect because it didn't seem too big and over the top. The weight is perfect, too. Enough to make you feel like you've got a quality product. I also like how the dials are on the left side instead of the right. It allows me to move my wrist up more.

The only negative thing I can say is that it is a bit conspicuous, so if you're trying to keep a low profile, this probably isn't the watch for you. It has a lot of bling. It's a perfect size -- the model with the larger face would really be too big, but this one is beautiful. Actually, I will say that there is one problem -- the monochromatic look of the watch makes it a little hard to read the time, if that is important to you. The photo makes it look like the face is much lighter than the hands or the rest of the watch, but the color is almost identical. For me, a watch is jewelry, not a time piece (my cell phone gives me the time). So I'm not deducting a star for that, it's really a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Hands down this is a great watch. I love the 48-20 and the size compared to the 51-30. This is still a very large watch that is plenty chunky & heavy without being over the top massive. I think the days of the massive big-ben watches are on the decline and that is why this is a perfect size. If you notice on the Nixon website every new watch they are coming out with is 48mm instead of the massive 52mm of the 51-30's. I just hope they continue to come out with more styles of the 48-20 because I love a big watch with some weight to it without being obnoxious. Don't get me wrong I loved the size of the 51-30 in it's day, but I think those days are numbered.

The only thing I was disappointed about with this watch is that the hands weren't illuminated but it wouldn't keep me from buying it again. It's my own fault that I didn't read they weren't in the description.

The watch is gorgeous it is on the heavier side but is a looker bought this for my boyfriend and he loves it. When we got the product though one of the hands did not work and there was loose links at the bottom of the box also noticed a scratch on the link part. It was definitely a returned product and they just re sold it. Question is did the company even look at the product before re selling it?! The company return policy was ridiculous saying if any of the links have been removed or if it looked worn they couldnt do anything and it would be at my expense. -_- Really? how am i suppose to meet those qualifications if they sent it to me with links already taken out, one of the hands are not working, and there was a scratch on the bottom link! so frustrating. will never buy from this company again. I love this watch. As another reviewer stated, it's a bit on the heavier side, some users may not prefer that. The biggest pro of this watch is that the dials are on the left side of the watch. If you wear the watch on your left wrist, then you will not accidentally push the buttons when resting your hand on a table. Big plus.

The red on black look is very tachometer looking. :-) Great styling and design. Very happy with this watch. Used to own the 51, which felt like an alarm clock on my wrist...definitely pleased with the smaller bezel on this watch.

Cheers.

I bought the watch as a Christmas present for my girlfriend after she saw it and fell in love. Even though the watch is labeled as a men's watch, it's MUCH MUCH larger than any picture leads you to believe. The watch swallows my wrist and I'm 6'3". If you're buying this for your wife/girlfriend/sister, make sure she's into oversized jewelry (lucky for me, mine is).

Oh - a tricky part to this watch is what appears to be the second-hand isn't that at all so don't think your watch is broken if it doesn't move. This hand is actually the timer for the watch's stopwatch and is supposed to be sitting stationary on the 12. The top, middle smaller dial is the watch's second hand.

The 51-30 is too big, the 42-20 is too small, this one is perfect. The 51-30 looks silly too me honestly, it's beautiful but unless you're a giant it may not look that good on you imho. I work for a bank and the 48-20 is something I can wear at work... Or at the club lol

The only thing that you do want to remember before you buy it is that this WILL fade eventually. I've heard of people putting clear coat and clear nail polish on their watchs to prevent that from happening but I haven't tried it. I think I'm going to try it on one of the extra links and see how it turns out.

This is a very elegant watch, whether it be worn at work with a suit or as a weekend warrior. It gets alot of compliments and is the perfect size if the 51-30 is too big for you.
I'm glad I bought it off Amazon as I think I saved like $300+ from Nixon or Retail. However, even at the retail price, there are a few flaws.
Firstly, the second hand is not actually the second hand. The seconds are the middle chronograph of the 3. A bit dissapointing but whatever. Also, the triangle on the bezel does not line up exactly with the center dot or the center square around the bezel. These little details annoy the hell out of me, especially when paying this price. I understand Nixon is not a Rolex, but these details should be considered.
If you're looking for other watches I would consider jomashop.com. Thank you seller for a great deal.

Great, stylish watch. Love the red accents that Nixon did with this watch. I love big watches and own a Nixon 51-30 but that's pushing it. The 48-20's size is perfect. Big enough but not as loud as the 51mm watch.
