Good, nondescript rock,
By Ulysses Lateiner (Somerville, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nixons (Audio CD)
The Nixons, one of the more enjoyable bands that never made it big, never really stood out from the rest of the pack in the mid-90s rock scene. This album, which doesn't offer anything new or novel, won't change that. It's one large serving of vanilla medium-to-heavy rock; a lot of the songs sound more or less the same, but it's entertaining enough. A few of the tracks (In Spite of Herself, Sad Sad Me, Screaming Yellow, At the Sun) have an extra little element of catchyness that keep them in your head after the song is over; most of the rest of the tracks are nondescript enough that if you named one of them, I couldn't hum 5 notes of it (even now, after over a dozen rotations of the CD). The main weakness of the album would have to be its bland lyrics; they're pretty much exactly what you'd expect out of a middle-of-the-pack 90s rock band (December exemplifies this lyrical mediocrity well). I guess it sounds like I'm coming down kind of hard on the album; the funny thing is, even though it's not the kind of album you'll want to rush out and tell your friends about, it's still pretty enjoyable listening. To summarize, I'll say that if you like 90s hard rock, you'll probably like this CD--just don't expect it to rock your world.

The Nixon - self-titled (MCA),

This review is from: Nixons (Audio CD)
This is their second CD.Many of their fans would consider The Nixons to be one of the better alternative rock&roll bands to emerge on the scene when they did.Tunes that make this CD a keeper are "Baton Rouge","Miss USA","In Spite Of Herself" and "Leave".Line-up:Zac Maloy-guitar&vocals,Jesse Davis-guitar,Ricky Brooks-bass and Tye Robinson-drums.Might appeal to fans of Bush,Dropkick Murphys,Fury In The Slaughterhouse and possibly Seven Mary Three.
