Your Reviews Got Me To Try It...,
By
This review is from: Nizoral AntiDandruff Shampoo 7 fl oz (200 ml) (Health and Beauty)
This is the first review I've ever written for a product but since YOUR comments are what saved my sanity I thought I'd try to do the same for someone else :)
The past 6 years or so I have struggled with heavy dandruff in the front, temple area, and base of my hairline. It was REALLY bad. I would refer to it as "Austin Powers Gold Member" flakes (when he peels his skin off in the movie and eats it..ugh!) I had tried everything, Neutrogena shampoos, SLS free shampoos, massaging my scalp, hot oil treatments, using luke warm water only to wash my hair, dinking plenty of water/healthy diet/vitamins, and basically anything and everything my hair dresser would recommend. I would slop on different hair oils and natural oils right on the patches and it LOOKED like it would work but only for an hour or two. I would be at work or school brushing flakes out of my hairline...ewww... It wasn't until a friend of mine was going to do my hair and I was sooo embarrassed that she would really see how bad it was. So I decided to make an appt. with a dermatologist. The day before the appt. I decided to look up Nizoral and Head & Shoulders and read the comments on Amazon (I do that with almost every product) and what I read in the comments are what lead me to try the shampoo first. I went to my local Walgreens and got a bottle for $7. I admit I wasn't overly positive about it working...I had tried shampoos like this before just to see in a few hours that the flakes would reappear right? Wrong! I was and still am amazed that not only did it work but it's been 2 months now and it's still working. I believe it's the anti-fungal agent in the shampoo that makes the difference. All I can say is it's been...whosh...a HUMUNGOUS sigh of relief. I'm 31 and female was starting to see thinning in the front where most of the patches were. So now not only are the "Gold Member" flakes gone, my hair has started to get thicker, I'm not constantly brushing crap out of my hair all day at work, but I'm saving money on expensive oils that weren't really needed in the first place. YEAH!! Just a note: I do follow up with a SLS free hydrating Shampoo (Enjoy or Sudzz are good)on the body and ends only-not the scalp area, because it can be a little drying. Hair dye may wash out faster with use of Nizoral but who cares when you have a clean, healthy, and good looking scalp!

Long time sufferer of seborrheic dermatitis,
This review is from: Nizoral AntiDandruff Shampoo 7 fl oz (200 ml) (Health and Beauty)
I've been suffering from severe seborrheic dermatitis of the face for years now. I got this product assuming that it wouldn't work for me just like everything else I've tried in the past, but I hoped for the best.
After just 3 uses the skin on my face is no longer flaky. I can now go out in public without being self conscious about my flaky skin. I would recommend Nizoral not just for your scalp but for your face too. It has been a savior for me. Directions for those wondering how I've cured my seborrheic dermatitis. Apply a lather to your face while showering. Wash the rest of your body while leaving the shampoo on your face to soak in (Anywhere between 5-10 minutes). Gently scrub your face with soft cloth or a sponge to clear the dead skin. After you get out make sure to apply some sort of moisturizing cream. I have a prescription for desonide 0.05% Lotion that works wonders. If you find that your moisturizer irritates your skin switch to something else until you find one that works for you, or go and see your dermatologist. Hope this review helps others!

Drying on African American hair - but works,
This review is from: Nizoral AntiDandruff Shampoo 7 fl oz (200 ml) (Health and Beauty)
Like most people ignorant of the cause and nature of dandruff, I started my sentences with "Even though my hair is oily, I still have dandruff..." not realizing that excess oil is partly to blame for REAL dandruff (not dry scalp). As an African American with dry, brittle hair, adding moisture is necessary to keep my hair healthy, shiny and manageable. Yet excess moisture causes dandruff outbreaks.
Anti-dandruff shampoo treatments are EXTREMELY drying to many African Americans' hair - especially because you have to wash hair frequently, and chemically-treated African American hair is fragile and shouldn't be washed more than once a week. For me, my hair was already coarse and brittle, and I had a choice: a) use an anti-dandruff treatment but suffer dry, brittle, fly-away hair, or b) give the ILLUSION of healthy hair by using the wrong moisture products and have dandruff. After months of dandruff research, I finally tried Nizoral. The first week I didn't notice a difference. After 2 weeks the dandruff was completely gone (had the same bottle for almost a year), but my hair was SO dry. It took me a few tries, but I finally figured out a routine for re-hydrating my hair after using Nizoral that DOESN'T cause more dandruff: 1. When dandruff outbreaks occur, wash hair every 4 days with Nizoral. Lather once and rinse, then lather a second time and leave on scalp for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. 2. Apply a HYDRATING deep conditioner (I use Paul Mitchell Super-Charged Moisturizer) and leave on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. 3. Apply a LIGHT hydrating serum (like Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum or Kera Care Silken Seal) before drying. I do this once or twice before the dandruff clears up. I only have dandruff when I overuse hair products instead of getting a touch up (see my Affirm relaxer review); essentially, the better I take care of my hair, the less often I have dandruff. African Americans with dandruff have to be careful to use hydrating hair products, especially after an anti-dandruff treatment. Hair grease and pomades DON'T WORK. Natural oils (pomegranate, jojoba, tea tree) or shea butters are best.

I am very satisfied with Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. Many anti-dandruff shampoos tend to make my hair feel dry or rough. I have thick, waist-length hair and Nizoral got rid of the dandruff and left it feeling soft and easy to manage. Unlike some anti-dandruff shampoos that have a medicinal smell, Nizoral has a pleasant fragrance. I'll definitely use this product any time I need a dandruff shampoo.

My own experience with Nizoral is that the first time you use it (after not using it for a while or not using it ever before), you WILL get an increase in flakes. It's almost as if it's loosening up and ridding your scalp of everything that was already there. After that, with continued use, it's amazing. I find that only after using it two or three times, I can stop... sometimes for weeks, sometimes for months, without reacurring dandruff! So don't be scared after the first shampoo and all these huge flakes show up. I do wish it smelled a little nicer, but it's a small price to pay for results!

I did not purchase this product via Amazon. I purchased it from CVS. However I felt compelled to write a review for others out there like me who needed reviews to know if Nizoral is worth a try or not.
I have dermatitis, eczema, dry scalp, etc...list continues. It is humiliating to be in public with dry flakes everywhere in my hair or head. My dermatologist prescribed different types of medications but none worked too well. I did not want to resort to using steroid shots to reduce inflammation on my head. I tried Head & Shoulders, Neutrogena T-GEL, Jason Organics, Selson Blue, anything I thought possible. Then I heard about Nizoral. What is different about it is the type of ingredient: Ketoconazole. It is a synthetic antifungal drug. Read more about in Wikipedia. It will be exactly 1 week today that I've used it. I noticed my head is no longer dried, itchy, or flakes falling. It controlled the inflammation on my head thus I do not shed hair as much. For the amount of money it cost compared to other brands, I say try it!

Excellent results.,
This review is from: Nizoral AntiDandruff Shampoo 7 fl oz (200 ml) (Health and Beauty)
I had extremely dry scalp, and it was getting worse and worse. Eventually the scalp got dry and flaky only a couple of hours after I washed my head. Tried different kinds of shampoos and oils, nothing worked. Told about my problem to my primary care doctor. He said that might me some kind of fungal infection and recommended Nizoral. The one you can get without prescription. So I got the bottle.
The very first time I washed my head with Nizoral I felt it penetrated deeply into my skin. It felt much better so I decided to give it a try. As recommended, I used it twice a week, for three months. After three month there was substantial changes as follows. My skin was nice and smooth, at least for 4-5 days after washing the head. Also the hairs on my head got thicker and stronger, and looked much healthier. So after three month I went into a maintenance mode: washing every 5 days, or 3 times every two weeks, on average. Seems like if I don't, in about a week my skin starts getting a bit dry again, but nothing like it was before. I started using Nizoral in February 2007, and went into maintenance mode in May 2008, a year ago, and still doing it. So my recommendation: first check the nature of your dry skin with your doctor or dermatologist, and if it is due to fungal infection, chances are Nizoral will do the trick. Also: I was loosing my hears in front on my scalp. Seems like once I started using Nizoral, I'm no longer loosing them. The bold spots I have don't increase.

I suffer from seborhea sometimes, so to keep the flakey-scaley skin on my scalp, forehead, sides of my nose away I've gotten into using Nizoral when the symptoms arise.
For the most part it works. That said, it's expensive because it's only a small bottle it comes in and the price is high just for that bottle. The smell is not so bad, pretty good actually. But of course, there's nothing you can do about it anyway because it's the flakes that you want controlled, so even if you don't like it you tolerate because the alternative is worse. I suggest American readers try to order it from Canadian companies, or stock up while you're visiting up here because the 2% is a stronger concentration of the medicinal part of Nizoral than the American 1%. Best of luck.

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo seems to be a very good product. I noticed a difference the first time I used it -- there was no residue on my scalp, and my flakiness was greatly reduced. It produced a very rich lather, also. The only thing I didn't like about it was the possibility that I'd have an allergic reaction to the ingredients, but the instructions didn't tell which ingredients might make this happen. I, myself, am sensitive to many products, and didn't have any reaction to the ingredients of the shampoo. I would recommend this product to others.

Nizoral is the best Anti-dandruff Shampoo ever!,

This review is from: Nizoral AntiDandruff Shampoo 7 fl oz (200 ml) (Health and Beauty)
I have an oily scalp but lots of dandruff. Nizoral really removes the dandruff without drying the scalp or the hair. The smell is relatively pleasant (the scent is a little bit on the medicinal side, but it is not offensive at all). It stops the itch almost instantly, and when used regularly, it keeps off the dandruff. Despite the high price, it is definitely worth the purchase.
I have tried many other anti-itch and dandruff shampoo, but they either dry the scalp too much (e.g. Head and Shoulders), or they smell offensive (coal tar products). The smell of the coal tar products remind me of the flea shampoo that I used to wash my dog with! All in all, I would have given Nizoral 10 stars if I could. I would highly recommend this product. |
